ACLU 'ready to return to the courts' to thwart Trump immigration plans

This time around, the ACLU shows no signs of backing off, particularly since Trump has once again made big promises to overhaul the border and immigration protocols.

ACLU leadership warned two days after the Nov. 5 election that the organization stood ready to take on Trump again.

“As Trump returns to the White House, we’re ready to return to the courts and Congress to fight for our civil liberties,” the group said in a statement last month.

“Starting on day one, we’re ready to fight for our civil liberties and civil rights in the courts, in Congress, and in our communities,” it continued. “We did it during his first term … and we’ll do it again.”

Andrew R. Arthur, a former immigration judge who is a resident fellow in law and policy at the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, said he anticipates that the ACLU will lead the charge among opposition groups.

“I anticipate that the ACLU will file challenges to anything that the second Trump administration does,” said Arthur, whose employer is nonpartisan but leans right on immigration issues. “I anticipate that there will be a variety of organizations and groups up to and including states that will attempt to push back … in this lawfare environment against every effort that the Trump administration makes to limit or to enforce the laws.”

Theresa Cardinal Brown, a senior adviser on immigration and border policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, said the lawsuits have flown both ways under Democratic and Republican administrations with plenty of lawfare, a term for warfare through lawsuits.

President Joe Biden has faced many lawsuits from conservative groups and states since 2021, including by America First Legal, states such as Texas, and the Immigration Reform Law Institute.

“The litigation is happening in both directions,” Brown wrote in an...

????

ACLU is not a government agency or organization. DOGE would not have any jurisdiction over the ACLU.

How can they argue LEGALLY that illegal invaders must be allowed to stay?. Title 8 section 1324 makes it clear illegals cannot live here or collect benefits or even rent housing.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1324

(A)Any person who—

(iv)encourages or induces an alien to come to, enter, or reside in the United States, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such coming to, entry, or residence is or will be in violation of law; or
(v)
(I)engages in any conspiracy to commit any of the preceding acts, or
(II)aids or abets the commission of any of the preceding acts,
shall be punished as provided in subparagraph (B).

(B)A person who violates subparagraph (A) shall, for each alien in respect to whom such a violation occurs—

(iv)in the case of a violation of subparagraph (A)(i), (ii), (iii), (iv), or (v) resulting in the death of any person, be punished by death or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, fined under title 18, or both.

Trump has the Constitutional authority AND DUTY(!!) to get rid of the illegal invaders.
“F” the ACLU with a barbed-wire branding iron.

Why doesn’t a “Civil Liberties Union” support the 2nd A?

Correct.
Too many here run on being reactionary.
MANY years ago I was something of a defender of the ACLU.
That was before I saw some of the dirty things they support and how they go about it.
Maybe they were once useful, as is claimed for Unions.
But now they are just commy scum, like the Unions.

Loaded buses would have no problem visiting the ACLU houses-their lawns with tents.

And Trump can tell the courts to go pound sand, too. The only Court that has any jurisdiction WHATSOEVER is the SCOTUS, and all they can legally do is give Trump a standing ovation.

A few years ago the ACLU here in NV very publicly DID support our 2A at the legislature against a very badly written bill.
And right afterward, I overheard their lobbyist trying to explain to the bills author how to reword it to get their support!
What they wanted was still an attack on the 2A, just a bit more nuanced.

The ACLU is an arm of the Left and nothing more. I have always disliked them, but at times in the past gave them grudging respect.

Now, no respect at all. And I was likely mistaken to have given them any respect in the past.

If they take any cases now that are conservative in nature, it is a token case to provide a fig leaf of objectivity. But even that is rare now.

However—ACLU is a non-profit.

Their tax exempt status should be revoked on day one.

They are very partisan and political.

Anyone interfering with the deportation of criminals illegally in the USA must be jailed.

I’ve been told over and over again that the ACLU is only there to protect everyone’s freedom of speech from government restrictions. Not true.
