Teaching the real history would make the Democrats look really, really bad.
And it would also expose the long history of race hustlers who try to make a living out of an endless grievance scheme of “Whitey owes us” which never helps anyone except the hustler.
Why not just teach American history and include Black Americans?
THIS!!
Are they going to teach that blacks started black slavery in the New World??
Maybe they should also teach white history.
Or, just teach real history - what really happened and leave the racism out of it.
I had to take a class at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio, that was designated a ‘black studies’ class. It was a lot of BS thrown in about how all the world’s problems were because of white people, and especially white capitalists. I would have had to take a second such course, but I got the heck out of that school and into one that wasn’t quite so woke.
That was back in the early 90s.
Who knows? The State of Florida has a very convoluted history of teaching its history in public education including aggrandizing the Indian wars to the benefit White man’s supremacy (yes, that means Jackson and his followers,) the black population of the time, the Civil War battles and a lot of mixed-up stuff into the 1970’s.
I’ve recently been spending time in N. Central FL. I stop and read markers. I would say that even some of the still existing historical markers are not that accurate. Is the State going to print new books?
I don’t understand why some people get their knickers in a twist on this topic.
First, of all, this is an indictment of educators. And most educators are leftists. Ergo, this is evidence that leftists haven’t a clue how to teach history.
Second, this is an indictment of public education.
Third, exploring this history isn’t ipso facto bad. There are MANY dimensions of history where I wasn’t swift, and when I pursued the research it was illuminating.
In fact, the history of black Americans is, generally, a history of statist oppression and sanctioned murder, often with a bunch of bigoted Dems manning the keys to City Hall. Indeed, some of the biggest bigots around are lily white leftists.
In this light, it is EASY to see why this history gets shoddy treatment in K-12.
Will there be a lesson on that topic? I very much doubt it.
Inconsistent, you say...
Like all the other subjects are taught uniformly across the state/country.
But, because black, it has to be getting short shrift. In other words, “You’re doing it WRONG, cracker!”
Story from a Kentucky TV station which has trademarked “Where Local Matters”. Way to focus on local stories, Bowling Green.
No. The blacks enslaved other tribesmen in Africa and sold them to European slave traders on the slave coast or to muslim slave traders. So they started it in the Old World.
No history, nor any other subject in school should be taught with any bias and/or filters.
Truth and accuracy is best and must include lots of pictures further defining our checkered past, both our ups and downs as people and as a nation.
I agree that Black history isn’t well taught in K-12. There’s a real shortage of lessons on Black slave owners and Black soldiers in the Confederate army, for example.
“Are they going to teach that blacks started black slavery in the New World??”
And will they teach that Africa was the birthplace of slavery?
Also, that original sin is thought to have been birthed in Africa?
Just because they did that in the old world does not mean they didn’t start black slavery in the New World. Don’t be dense.
I have just 1 problem with your statements:
First, of all, this is an indictment of educators. And most educators are leftists. Ergo, this is evidence that leftists haven’t a clue how to teach history.
Please remove the last word. That is all.
Will they teach the illiteracy rates of Blacks? Or, maybe they might teach the criminal convictions of blacks? Maybe they will teach what lousy places all black run countries are?
You can’t teach them separately. It’s impossible. All they’re doing is promoting people like MLK...Black Panthers...BLM....
And let’s not leave out the folks that still think slavery is aok - the muslims.
