Death sentences of 2 ruthless Southern California serial killers commuted

Two notorious San Fernando Valley men sentenced to death in federal court in 2007 for a kidnappings-for-ransom scheme and the cold-blooded murder of five people have had their sentences commuted to life in prison by President Biden.

Iouri Mikhel and Jurijus Kadamovas, Soviet immigrants, operated an aquarium store on Ventura Boulevard where they hatched their gruesome plot, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The duo targeted the immigrant community, luring victims in with the promise of profitable business deals before ruthlessly beating them, kidnapping them, demanding ransoms from their families and, ultimately, strangling them to death.

Between 2001 and 2002, Mikhel and Kadamovas murdered four men and one woman, disposing of their bodies five hours north in the New Melones reservoir near Yosemite.

While the infamous killers’ sentences were upheld in federal appeals court in 2018, President Joe Biden on Dec. 23 commuted the sentences of all but three inmates on federal death row.

Of course at least four of his gang (Tex Watson, Patricia Krenwinkel, Bruce Davis and Bobby Beausoleil) are still serving life sentences (three commuted from death) so hope springs eternal, even for mass murderers.

Joe Biden laughs in the face of victims, families, and communities by commuting the sentences of the most heinous criminals and letting hundreds of subdemons escape the minimal punishment they were dealt. Throwing away the death penalty removes all limits on criminals. We will all reap the whirlwind Biden has sown, while he slips away into his inner darkness. Let the name “Biden” be a watchword for horrible, worthless scum to be despised and forgotten.

Not sure it would have mattered in California - the last execution was in 2006 - Newsom is anti-death penalty and signed an EO in 2019:

“... placing a moratorium on the death penalty in California. The executive order also calls for withdrawing California’s lethal injection protocols and immediately closing the execution chamber at San Quentin State Prison.”

Despite the wishes of the voters:

“During the past eight years, California voters have twice reiterated their support for the death penalty by defeating propositions seeking to overturn it....in 2016 they even passed a proposition calling for the speeding up of executions by shortening the decades-long appeals process.”
