President-elect Trump settled a defamation lawsuit with ABC News for $15 million. That suit followed a segment in which George Stephanopolous inaccurately said Trump had been found liable for raping writer E. Jean Carrol when in fact, he had been found liable in a civil case for sexual abuse. Amna Nawaz discussed more with New York Times reporter David Enrich.

Today, at his first news conference since winning the 2024 election, president-elect Donald Trump spoke about a number of his policy priorities and answered questions on a wide range of issues.

Despite the potential U.S. ban of TikTok next month, Mr. Trump said he had what he called a warm spot in his heart for the popular social media app. That's after winning a larger share of Gen Z voters than he expected in this year's election.
And that's as the Chinese-owned app asked the Supreme Court today to block that law that could result in a U.S. ban.

When it came to foreign policy, Mr. Trump declined to say whether he'd spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin since the election. But he did reiterate his goal to end the war in Ukraine as quickly as possible, adding that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy should be prepared to make a deal.

Apparently the US Press feels that the US Press should be free to slander, defame, libel and lie about any Republican they wish.
Being a journalist does not give you extra free speech rights. They are subject to the same court imposed limitations that placed on every citizen.

Saying "Of course I'll still respect you in the morning" is not illegal, nor is calling someone a "stinky poop-head". But it might be cause for getting your tail caught in a wringer.

If ABC was this concerned they would have fought the charge at trial.
Instead, they admit their actions were defamatory.
Journalism, by definition, cannot be defamatory because they should not express an opinion—only facts with sources. Therefore, ABC and Little Georgie cannot be deemed to be journalism.
