President-elect Donald Trump said Thursday that Congress should get rid of the debt ceiling, a day after he came out against a deal reached by congressional lawmakers to fund the government before a shutdown occurs.
In a phone interview with NBC News, Trump said getting rid of the debt ceiling entirely would be the “smartest thing it [Congress] could do. I would support that entirely.”
“The Democrats have said they want to get rid of it. If they want to get rid of it, I would lead the charge,” Trump added.
Trump suggested that the debt ceiling is a meaningless concept — and that no one knows for sure what would happen if it were to someday be breached — “a catastrophe, or meaningless” — and no one should want to find out.
“It doesn’t mean anything, except psychologically,” he said.
The debt ceiling is the limit lawmakers set that determines how much the federal government can borrow to pay its bills. It doesn’t authorize any new spending.

Debt ceiling is stupid
We’re 35 trillion in debt beyond control. The interest is beyond control
It pretends Congress cares
Trump know economics better than anyone in Congress
He knows they need to stop printing money, stop with the grift and get back to work
bad idea.
our economy is a train building up speed for a wreck.
“It doesn’t mean anything,
or spend right up to the limit.
Good management is much better that regulations is what Trump is telling us.
Buehler..Buehler .. Buehler, anyone know where Ferris Buehler is today?
Crickets on this subject. If Biden, Clinton, Obama or GW bushitter proposed this, the comments would be flowing like excrement from a sick pig.
Ok, the debt ceiling is like an unenforceable law, worthless, since Congress doesnt care. But what does Trump have planned to reign in spending?
The debt ceiling is near negative where it was until Bush. Obama doubled it to 8 trillion
Now it’s a monopoly game. Except it isn’t. Trump has his team collecting all the hotels and houses rounding up the pastel money, turning over game boards
If Republicans pushed back on the Democrats' game of government shutdown chicken, the debt ceiling wouldn't be a problem at all.

But what does Trump have planned to reign in spending?
What work? Most of the time, they don't do anything. We'd be better off if they just went home; Congress could easily be a part-time job.
Debt ceiling strategy should be a hard and firm path to getting it to zero. Eliminating a debt ceiling is a sprint in the other direction.
“ bad idea.”
Ya Trump has a bad idea. He is a finance mogul. His idea is worse than the idiot grifter money printers in Congress
Debt ceiling!!? What an insult
What’s the ceiling?
36 trillion. We’re going to hit that next year just on interest
How many times has Congress wasted its time fighting about raising the debt ceiling?
78 times!
When something is not working—no matter why it is not working—you stop doing it.
“ But what does Trump have planned to reign in spending?”
Nothing. He’s just another numbskull congressman lining his own pockets with insider trading cash
If anyone believes that at this point I have nothing to help.

I know he has the new “department of gov efficiency”. I am all for his cutting crap out of govt spending. But Admins are temporary and the American voter has demonstrated both fickleness and outright stupidity. I asked the question with the concern that in 4 years or 8 years or 12 years, whenever a dem/lib/american hating communist get elected again, what mechanisms stop the spending madness.
He’s re-setting the terms of the debate to his preference.
DOGE
“get back to work”
What work? Most of the time, they don’t do anything. We’d be better off if they just went home; Congress could easily be a part-time job.”
You know what I mean
Congress is a part time job. These bums should have a two term limit like the one THEY imposed on the presidency and they should all have a career off a job or a trust fund
The founders would be outraged that Nancy pelosi amassed a $250 million coffer on a 20 term grifting, family run insider trading enterprise. Twenty terms
She has no clue how to do anything but tell us what to do and amass a fortune on the legislation she procures
Suddenly dims are FOR the debt ceiling. Wow, imagine that lol
