As everybody knows, the Irish Times is about as close as it gets to being the house journal of official Ireland, which makes this paragraph of its breaking news story this afternoon about the Israeli decision to close the Dublin Embassy particularly hilarious:
“To date, Israel has not applied similar measures to other countries, including Egypt, Spain, and Mexico, which also joined the petition accusing Israel of genocide..”
The subtext is obvious: The perfidious Israelis have unfairly singled out little old Ireland again. Why, we’ve been unfairly treated!
In reality, the reasons why Ireland would be treated differently to those three countries are obvious and self-evident to anybody with a working brain.
In the case of Egypt, the public hostility of the Egyptian dictatorship towards Israel is matched only by its private determination to work with the Israelis towards shared goals. Egypt is the only other country on earth to share a border with the Gaza Strip, and has assiduously kept that border sealed for years, including via the construction of a massive wall. Egypt might protest in public to keep the Arab street quiet, but throughout the current war it has persistently refused to allow its territory to be used as an escape valve by Hamas. It knows – though Ireland does not – that the people who run Gaza are as much a threat to Egypt as they are to Israel.

I’ve seen a number of Twitter accounts from Ireland where they are hating on Israel.
What’s up with that?
There’s no clear connection between the two nations, one is in Asia and the other out in the Atlantic Ocean.
Ireland is insignificant as they were on WWII, except this time they don’t know it.
For the same reason the Irish are all in on abortion now. They've got the leftist disease.
The land of ancestors really pisses me off sometimes.
Makes me think the smart ones either died or emigrated.

Sisi is rational, we can't say the same about Erdoğan.
Both Ireland and Israel were born of terrorist acts against the British, so they have that in common. So they do have that in common.
Erdogan is highly rational and has a well thought out long term plan.
Spheres of influence are critical to any sensible international structure and the Turks are the right people to exert influence over the Arabs, as they did successfully for hundreds of years.
Never thought “No Irish Need Apply” signs would be posted by those that rule Irland.
they lit fires so the Nazi’s could find england easier to bomb during the war.
Ireland is being overrun with muzzies.
“Sisi is rational, we can’t say the same about Erdoğan.”
This is why overthrowing Assad might mean trouble for Israel. Erdogan hates Israel and now has a land corridor to the Israeli border. The Turks are way tougher fighters than the Arabs. Israel could have a real bad time fighting them.
The Iranians and the Russians prevented Erdoğan from having a direct route to attack Israel.
Now Israel is going to have to expand their buffer zone in Syria to protect their nation from being attacked by Syrian Islamists who are backed by Turkey.
Acts of terrorism?
Ireland was “Nazi-adjacent” in WWII, so not much of a surprise they dislike the Jews.
THE MUSLIM POPULATION IN IRELAND OF INVADERS.....
Yes. The best Irish came to America.
Overrun by liberal kooks
#3... Exactly.
I’m not defending the Irish actions during the second world war, but they do have a rather large and legitimate grievance about their treatment by the English for centuries.
