President Joe Biden is set to allow California to ban the production of new gas-powered vehicles after 2035.
California and 11 other states were awaiting permission for the ambitious measure, which Biden is set to give in one of his final acts during the lame-duck period, two people briefed on the matter told the New York Times. President-elect Donald Trump has repeatedly signaled his opposition to the measure, setting up a legal battle for the second administration.
One-quarter of vehicles bought in California are electric, the highest in any state, yet still far behind the aimed-for 100% in a decade. Trump has vowed to terminate the mandate to fully transition to electric cars.
“California has imposed the most ridiculous car regulations anywhere in the world, with mandates to move to all-electric cars,” Trump said. “I will terminate that.”
The New York Times reported that Trump is expected to revoke Biden’s permission on the first days of his presidency. The matter will likely then go to the courts.
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) has been trying to move forward with the ban for the last four years. He signed an executive order in 2020 and the California Air Resources Board voted on the regulation two years later.

What is the point of statehood if an unelected board inn another state gets to make the rules for your state?
We don’t need to Fight this, we need to fully embrace this move to EV’s and President Trump is the man should lead us through by Mandating that all 12 of these States have 100% of the Public Employee’s in their State exclusively use an EV or Mass Public Transit for ALL TRAVEL and a Criminal Act to Use, Own or Possess any ICE powered vehicle of any kind or there will be NO FEDERAL FUNDS OF ANY KIND granted to the State.
Washington is one of those states.

Why wait in a crisis??? ALL petro-based fuel should be banned today from these morons.... Cut em ALL off starting right now. No more fuel deliveries...period. This leaves the rest of us with a lot more supply, and they, well, can do whatever they deem necessary; walk, horse/buggy, bicycle, whatever as long as it doesn’t run of petrol-fuel.
OH, that includes ALL their power plants as well. Whadda bunch of dumb basstids....LOL

These people are nuts. Electric cars are not going to do anything to save the planet. They will probably do more damage than they do good. If China and India go on ignoring all regulations the environment won’t change a bit even if 12 states ban all gas cars. All they will do is harm their citizens and economy.

Yep...so are two of my kids. Both are in the middle of getting ta heck out as fast as they can while the “getting” is still good.
One has to think big picture here. Ca and the other states represents a huge percentage of the market. Car makers are not inclined to make cars they cannot sell in a third of the market they want to make cars they can sell in 100% of the market. So Ca and the others can effectively bully the market especially if Europe joins them which they have committed to. We can only hope Trump can stop this or we may get stuck with EV’s even though we don’t want them.
My point wasn’t really about EVs, although I agree with what you wrote. Why have 11 states ceded legislative authority to an unelected board in California? Half of them revolted against the Crown because they didn’t like following laws passed by a Parliament where they had no votes 3000 miles away.

Even if they failed to enact the EV mandate this time, they'll just try again four years later - Gavin Newsom may be President by then.
