Broke California to Spend $1.4 Billion on More EV Charging Stations
Breitbart ^ | 12/13/2024 | Joel B Pollack

The State of California, which is suffering from massive budget deficits, will spend $1.4 billion to expand a network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to assist drivers of the cars that Gov. Gavin Newsom wants to require by 2035.

As Breitbart News noted earlier this week, Newsom’s EV mandate is in trouble, with sales falling far below targets. In addition, as the Los Angeles Times reported, Newsom is raising eyebrows by continuing to propose new spending — even though the state is suffering under massive budget deficits, despite lavish coronavirus relief from the federal government under President Joe Biden’s inflationary American Rescue Plan, which he signed on taking office in 2021.

Copper thieves prefer high-grade copper in the EV chargers. I wonder if California will oblige.

$1.4B is a lot of money. I bet they can build at least 5 charging stations with money like that.

It is 12F right now in my neck of the woods. I’am never going to own one of these sunbelt EV’s. The better off in my area drive them but they aren’t going to take them on road trips in these conditions..

Wow...that's some heavy duty multiple conductor cable.

Just think of the pollution caused when the thieves burn the insulation off.

In any case the CA grid will melt down since thew stupid dims closed the power stations down.

In other new AI and Bitcoin searches are energy intensive.

Microsoft is planning to reopen a nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania, but it's not the only tech giant tapping into nuclear energy to meet AI's increasing power needs: Google is also getting into the game with a new partnership.

On Monday, Google signed "the world's first corporate agreement" to buy nuclear energy from engineering company Kairos Power. Within the next six years, Kairos Power will get its first power-generating nuclear reactor up and running. By 2035, the company will provide Google with multiple sources of nuclear power.

The agreement adds 500 megawatts (MWs) of power to the U.S. grid.

By Federal DOT standards that should build about 1/3 of a charging station.

Why is a government building charging stations?

Having the government involved is actually a good thing because the dissatisfaction with the service is a sure fire way to kill the EV industry.
