Israel has confirmed it carried out attacks on Syria's naval fleet.

The BBC has verified videos showing blasts at the port of Latakia in Syria, with footage appearing to show extensive damage to ships and parts of the port.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) says it has documented more than 310 strikes by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) since the fall of the Assad regime on Sunday.

Israeli warplanes have also reportedly carried out hundreds of airstrikes across Syria, including on the capital, Damascus.

Thats’ right, do not allow any new Syrian regime any advantage. If the Syrians want to live in peace, and they quit fighting each other, they only need a vast military if they want to attack Israel.

“they only need a vast military if they want to attack Israel.”

Not really. They needed one when the Assad family was needing to keep the lid on the numerous contentious factions in that country.
The proof of that is that when we created Sunni Wahabbist ISIS/FSA/Al Nusra etc to overthrow Assad, we and the Israelis attacked the Syrian Army constantly by air. That was because that was the only force keeping the Jihadis in check.

Now that’s over and it’s a CIA/Jihadi country.

I suspect our hope is that the Saudis can control them.

Rumor on X regarding nearby Russian airbase.

"Information was received about the intentions of HTS militants to probe the defense of our [Khmeimim] base. Blackout measures were taken, personnel took up positions."

I hope they avoid the Russian ships in the area. Hitting one of them would be....unfortunate.

“Not really. They needed one when the Assad family was needing to keep the lid on the numerous contentious factions in that country.”

THAT aspect applies ONLY to the last decade (2012 on) with Assad trying to hold onto power. Prior to that the Assads, part of the Alawite mini-minority sect of Muslims, needed a big military to keep the majority Sunni out of power. Doing so proved their undoing as it fed the Sunni majority willingness to go over to folks like the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood. A more open Syrian society may have made for less radicalization of the Sunni majority.

“The proof of that is that when we created Sunni Wahabbist ISIS/FSA/Al Nusra etc”

1. We did not create ISIS/Al Nusra ect. They existed on their own.

2. We made many errors supporting “regime change” against Assad, including the idea itself, as the largest civilian opposition to Assad was Sunni civilians led by the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood. And our intel people did their usual piss poor job of vetting just who we lent arms and training to, in basess we set up in Jordan, as most soon took our aid and joined the Islamist militias already engaged against Assad.

3. However, ISIS and Al Nusra were not part of that. What ISIS and Al Nusra got that came from us they took from other terrorists and militias they defeated in the multifacted civil war that embroiled Syria. We and the Kurds became the main forces that dessimated ISIS in Syria, while we, the Kords in Iraq and Iraqi forces dessimated ISIS in Iraq.

I don’t think they can be thought of as monolithic after Assad. Too many factions. The only thing that can unite them is jihad against Israel with the aid of Iran. It is wise of Israel to use the current chaos to deny them potential upgraded war machines and supporting facilities.

Basically what this achieves is that whatever group claims control of Syria in coming days will have to basically rebuild their military from the ground up, which is unlikely in the short term, and thus the threat to Israel is greatly reduced.

Very astute. But Joe Biden and his neocon puppeteers are going to throw money at a failed state. Iran will counter by offering the young angry men of Syria a target -- Israel. Put yourself in the shoes of a 16 to 25 year old Syrian male. Which option do you take?

I certainly agree with the last sentence 100%, but I think they will come under a monolithic regime after some internal fighting probably. And probably the most ruthless faction will win out.
