I suspect it’s just posturing for the upcoming trade negotiations. The threat to invade Taiwan is more valuable than actually invading Taiwan.

Red China may take Taiwan, but would pay a very heavy price - to include Xi being deposed and their economy wrecked for generations.

China is screwed either way. Population and economic collapse are imminent (10 years one of them will get them). Their numbers for both are very suspect. They have more debt than we do but they are communists so no one internally will ask the Govt to pay.
Whatever plan DS has/had to use Biden to give Taiwan a “ victory”
