Tesla has released a new video of its Optimus humanoid robot achieving a new milestone: walking autonomously outside.
Fans are rejoicing at the progress, but the video reminds us of something else.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been telling shareholders that Optimus is a multi-trillion-dollar opportunity for the company.
Musk believes that Tesla is going to eventually produce tens of millions of Optimus robots per year.

Musk strutting into Congress with his son on his shoulders in a huge power move was something to see. It may be the only time in recent history that someone did that.

Nanzi Pelosi brought in her (great?) grandchild to bang the gavel when she became Speaker. Folks were speaking on the floor she made a big show of playing with the kid while they were.
I don’t view that as the same although similar. That would be Musk taking his kid to a Board meeting and letting him call it to order.
This was Musk taking control of a narrative in a setting that doesn’t belong to him.

I doubt Elon has caught up even with 2016 Boston Dynamics. He was posting fake videos of Optimus allegedly folding clothes on its own, without disclosing they were actually remote controlled by people in Haptic suits.
He faked the Cybertruck vs. Porsche video. He faked the Tesla Paint it Black video. He faked the Solar City presentation. He made false promises about the Tesla Semi, talking shit about how the Semi-truck will know when the driver dropped dead, and making promises about its capacity
(to this day no one knows the Tesla-Semi’s capacity, of the 30 that were created, dozens of which were photographed broken down on the sides of roads, and the vehicle is no longer for sale on Tesla’s website). Elon over promised on the Vegas Loop, promising high tech pods, and ultimately delivering just a tunnel without an emergency exit with neon lights for non-FSD Teslas to drive 3 people at a time through. Arguably the current Robotaxi (all Teslas were supposed to be RoboTaxies, but that’ll never happen) is also a fake, as there is no way that design will ever be allowed on the streets. Has no way to plug in normally. No wheel to turn when/if FSD fails or the vehicle breaks down. No fuckin’ handle to open the doors for firefighters.
The roboBus is too wide for the streets (someone actually measured it), and has serious design flaws due to one door right in the middle of it for exiting (so what happens when a car slams right there?).
It’s clear Elon doesn’t think these things through and just throws them out there for engineers to figure out to make it work. And since he’s used up all the good ideas of the original founders of Tesla, only these half-assed ideas are left.
Considering his history of fraud, there’s no reason to believe any of these bots are actually performing these walks on their own.
The Tesla Optimus is doing the walk up and down the hill totally under AI control, not remote-control. Change the hill, and you would see the same success. Boston Dynamics has had decades to make and sell robots, but they are never going to mass produce and sell any, especially not on the level of Tesla which will sell thousands of Optimus robots at affordable prices to the masses.
That's the problem. We don't know if that is actually true. We can't even be sure there hasn't been some CGI added to the clip. Elon is a known fraudster. Google the incidents I referenced in my post.
Elon’s engineers getting that right does not lead you to logically conclude that everything he’s doing actually works. Elon has been doing fraud since he got into business: made his first millions with Zip2, tricking investors with a fake super computer. Then once he got his cash, the investors IT people discover the website is a piece of shit and have to rebuild it from scratch. Then the next idiot comes along (Compaq computer) that makes Elon even richer... then they go bankrupt.
There’s a notorious example from his autobiography regarding Elon’s method of business, as observed in how he plays card games:
“[Max] Levchin was at a friend’s bachelor pad hanging out with Musk. Some people were playing a high-stakes game of Texas Hold ‘Em. Although Musk was not a card player, he pulled up to the table. “There were all these nerds and sharpsters who were good at memorizing cards and calculating odds,” Levchin says. “Elon just proceeded to go all in on every hand and lose. Then he would buy more chips and double down. Eventually, after losing many hands, he went all in and won. Then he said “Right, fine, I’m done.” It would be a theme in his life: avoid taking chips off the table; keep risking them.”
See the flaw in this strategy? And it’s something Elon does on the regular. Every time he fails, he goes into conman mode and raises more money from investors, busting out fake videos or promising 100% money back guarantee if you buy one of his Teslas, which he promises will be 100% compatible with becoming Robotaxies and will earn all your money back.... Whatever happened to that promise?
You folks are in love with Elon because he’s super glued himself to Trump. I recommend learning up on Elon because there is a 100% probability that Trump will be tossing him out as soon as he is able.

Telerobotics is hardly fake, that’s how his unmanned cargo rockets are going to be unloaded.

They already have sea drones with machine guns. They were used the other day near Crimea, shooting at Russian choppers.
This certainly a new world.
