Israeli forces also bomb weapons depots in southern Syria and the capital Damascus, Israeli media reports. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he ordered Israeli forces to “seize” a buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights established by a 1974 ceasefire agreement with Syria, after a lightning advance by Syrian opposition forces ended Bashar al-Assad’s rule.

NOW: Israel is striking Syria, likely targeting weapons and systems left behind by the Assad regime.
Assad was the last secular leader in the Arab world. He also protected Syria's Christian minority.
Now that Assad is gone, the Christians will be at the mercy of Islamists.
Thanks, Israel!
Excellent!
Good. Al JIHAD is not a good source for anything. But this is good news.
Israel’s job is to protect Israel. If it happens that they can also protect other people at the same time, that would be great, but sometimes that is not possible. I do notice that there are close to 2 billion Christians in this world - where are they when it comes to protecting their brethren in the Arab world? They’ve been notably absent for the past 40 years or so.
I'm not going to really blame Israel.
An unintended consequence for sure.
Hezbollah was firing at Israel with their rockets supplied by Iran.
Israel had no choice but to take them out.

Druze are pro-Israel
Tell me, is this for our national security, democracy and human rights in Syria, or for Syria’s sovereignty?
At what point will you admit that these are expeditionary, offensive, military campaigns with an economic nexus?
True.
But then let's set aside the false talking point that "Israel and the Christian West are fighting the same war against Islamists!" and "Israel is on the frontline of our common war against Muslims!"
Let's be honest and acknowledge that Israel's interests do not always coincide with that of America, Europe, or of Christendom.
Let's keep that in mind as we dole out the foreign aid.
Let's demand that our "ally" Israel pay greater heed to Christian interests in the Mideast if it wants foreign aid from the U.S. (which is still a majority Christian nation).
“Assad was the last secular leader in the Arab world. He also protected Syria’s Christian minority.

I understand what you mean, but the rabbit hole goes way deeper than you think...
Assad being “secular” is on paper only.
In reality his regime has survived for so long only thanks to Iran’s fanatic religious Hezbollah and Hamas proxies and thanks to Russia’s hunger for imperialism and its massive military support for the Shia-Alawites (not very nice people...).
These have killed thousand of Israelis and has terrorized Israel for decades.
Israel simply couldn’t take it anymore. That’s why they have been pushing HARD against the Iran-Russia-Syria Alliance in the region.
Syria’s fall has severely weakened Russia as a whole, and it is therefore protecting Christians. Indeed, Russia has killed 600.000 Christian Russian soldiers in meat waves on the killing-fields of Ukraine. Russia has also killed more than 100.000 Christian civilians in Ukraine, by levelling entire towns, villages and large attacks on Ukraines main cities. RUssia also killed thousands of Christian Ukrainian soldiers.
Thus, weakening Russia is helping Christians in Europe at least.
Israel never misses an opportunity to gain a strategic advantage. This will make the Golan safer and more secure. Bibi Netanyahu will be remembered as one of Israel’s greatest war time prime ministers.
Assad was actively working to liquidate Israel. Netanyahu’s obligation is to the people of Israel.
And now with a new war you will see hoards of “refugees” piling into Europe and into the welcoming arms of the WEF. Glad I got to see Europe while it was still there.

Absolutely.
Netanyahu has done a truly, truly, good job.
Since the Iraq War, we also broke the Libyan hornet's nest, which had acted as a wall preventing African migrants from moving into Europe.
Now Israel has broken the Syrian hornet's nest.
I don't know whether any of this is good for Israel. I know it's not good for the West.
Only pat buchanan style antisemites will find a way to blame the israelis for the fall of assad.
And angelino97 is a classic antisemite.
Thus, weakening Russia is helping Christians in Europe at least.
Weakening Russia means strengthening Turkey, which means strengthening Islam in Europe.

Generally speaking, everything is about the economy and security. When these two are functioning for a country it has a future. If any of those two are lacking there is no future for that country.
America sent no troops in this Syria event. It stayed out of it. By doing so America secured Syria’s fall, and that’s a direct security win for America’s closest ally Israel.
Russia abandoned Assad because it had no choice. It’s already buried neck-deep in its botched war against Ukraine. As Trump said yesterday, Russia is now so weakened that it can’t fight on two fronts at the same time.
Now for the $64K question, will Israel give back what was given to them?
