he Oklahoma City police officer who slammed a 71-year-old man onto the ground after a traffic stop has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and battery, the local district attorney announced Thursday.
Body camera footage from the Oct. 27, 2024 incident showed Sgt. Joseph Gibson stop Lich Vu, 71, for an illegal U-turn after a minor incident.
In the footage, Vu denied making U-turn, said his car was hit by another person and the officer asked him to sign the citation. Vu eventually got out of the car and the two got into a verbal argument that escalated.

Flame away.
Contempt of Cop body slam to put that old man in his place.
Maybe the officer has a quota of tickets to meet?
I watched the video several times. The level of force used against the strength of the target looked just about as disproportionate to me as swatting a mosquito with a sledgehammer (yeah, maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but...)
No, I can’t back a cop like that. That’s just an overgrown playground bully with a badge and a gun.
Yet another example of “earning the hate”. I don’t “back the blue”.
The old man couldn’t understand what the cop was saying. And so he got agitated, and either touched the cop or almost touched the cop.
The cop then wildly overreacted. I know if I violently slammed to the ground a person who brushed me I’d be charged. So charges against this cop would be appropriate. And he should lose his police certification.
And maybe an English language test should be part of every driver’s license test.
If the old guy saw it coming and countered the cop, he would be the one in trouble.
You are not allowed to defend yourself form cops.
There really needs to be better psychological evaluation of police officers, IMO. It may be ‘policy’ to take someone to the ground for cuffing if they are uncooperative, but this officer’s actions were totally uncalled for - a “don’t touch me, I’m god” complex.
He should be fired and the city pays all medical bills for the old man...
I know hindsight is 20/20, but if the cop had warned him not to make another illegal u-turn again, he would be charged if he did.
The old man was being a PITA but you don’t get to body slam people for that.
Some cops just go from 0-100 instantly. A little patience would have saved everyone a lot of grief here.
At least so I have been informed on FR by certain people.
I tend to believe that even they can not buy what they are trying to sell me.
Maybe we shouldn’t be handing out forms for every language at the dmv, when all our signs are in english(yes I know dem motor voter fraud and what not…)

Flame on: IMHO this cop is a dirtbag who gives good cops a bad name and he should do time. :Flame off
I know....I’ve watched YTs of other interactions with LEs and they often go out of their way to be inexplicably considerate with some absolute real dirtbags. And then we get this with the old man. That’s how old people get severely hurt or even killed.
... and apparently a license to kill
If it weren’t for modern video technology, that cop would have made up a complete lie about the old man viciously attacking him.
Then the cop would have notched another felony arrest and the old man would be sitting in a jail cell.
Disclaimer: Based on my observations and experience, I’d say that 15% of cops are trash, complete garbage. The rest range from adequate to exceptional.
And 15% is 14.99% too much in such an important and powerful profession.
watched the video. What a bully. Don’t they have any common sense how to treat senior citizens?
I'm a retired LEO and I think the cop was way out of line and lacks the temperament to be a law enforcement officer.
I remember when it was the job of the police to make the public feel safe.
When did that turn around?
