Only 6% of federal employees work from an office full-time, and a third are fully remote. And some aren’t actually working when they “work from home,” a Senate investigation found.
“Washington is still operating as if it’s March 2020,” Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), the chair of the Senate DOGE Caucus and the report’s author, wrote.
“Just three percent of the federal workforce teleworked daily prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, six percent of workers report in-person on a full-time basis, while nearly one-third are entirely remote,” the report states.
Government office buildings have an occupancy rate of only 12%, yet the government spends $16 billion a year to operate them. Even the head of the General Services Administration, which manages federal real estate, works from home in Missouri.
“You may be more likely to see a ghost than a bureaucrat haunting the halls of some government buildings in Washington, D.C. these days,” Ernst continued.

Government non-work is not new. I discovered this in 1985 when I called on the FAA in Washington DC.

Then why don’t we have 6% the federal office space we have?
This is a horribly misleading headline.
Yes. Most get some telework in a pay period. I get 2 days. But one of the first sentences says o my 1/3 are full remote.

I declined to even consider an interview with the Corpse of Engineers because classmates that took jobs there in the 70s were spending most of the day doing puzzles of all kinds at their desks. Once upon a time is was a good place for engineers to work who wanted to build things.
Government at all levels in every direction is now scared their fat bloated golden goose will be killed and many are raging and crying. And the fat cats running this epic corrupt cabal are seeing the real possibility of their power slipping away.
While America was preoccupied, it became the government vs us.

and with social programs being the primary receiver of taxes, and which is related to the progressive decline in the character of Americans (thus requiring more gov. help, as well as control),
then I think there should be much trimming of government, as well as dependence upon government, and its fostering of related character, which non-gov. orgs can help.
And as it is, having lived 72 years, and in an offically “low income” densely populated city for 30, and (partly due to credit, plus welfare), I have only seen Americans become more wealthy, materially at least.
