Only 6% Of Feds Work From An Office Full-Time — And Some Aren’t Working At All, Audit Finds
The Daily Wire ^ | December 5th, 2024 | By Luke Rosiak

Only 6% of federal employees work from an office full-time, and a third are fully remote. And some aren’t actually working when they “work from home,” a Senate investigation found.

“Washington is still operating as if it’s March 2020,” Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), the chair of the Senate DOGE Caucus and the report’s author, wrote.

“Just three percent of the federal workforce teleworked daily prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, six percent of workers report in-person on a full-time basis, while nearly one-third are entirely remote,” the report states.

Government office buildings have an occupancy rate of only 12%, yet the government spends $16 billion a year to operate them. Even the head of the General Services Administration, which manages federal real estate, works from home in Missouri.

“You may be more likely to see a ghost than a bureaucrat haunting the halls of some government buildings in Washington, D.C. these days,” Ernst continued.

This has been going on for DECADES. My mother used to work at Social Security. She said there was a man there who would come in, sit down at his desk and read the newspaper all day...except of course during lunch time. This was in the 70s/80s.

Government non-work is not new. I discovered this in 1985 when I called on the FAA in Washington DC.

I know someone that is a supervisor at the TSA.

He also runs a full time car repair service while hes supposedly working at the TSA.

He's done extremely well for himself since Covid.

This is a horribly misleading headline.

Yes. Most get some telework in a pay period. I get 2 days. But one of the first sentences says o my 1/3 are full remote.

A lot need to come back.

And if they are collecting DC COLA while living in SC they a violating the law.

I declined to even consider an interview with the Corpse of Engineers because classmates that took jobs there in the 70s were spending most of the day doing puzzles of all kinds at their desks. Once upon a time is was a good place for engineers to work who wanted to build things.

Government at all levels in every direction is now scared their fat bloated golden goose will be killed and many are raging and crying. And the fat cats running this epic corrupt cabal are seeing the real possibility of their power slipping away.

While America was preoccupied, it became the government vs us.

Well, despite unsustainable Fed. debt, The **federal** government is the **largest** employer in the United States

And Federal Employee Salaries Average $143,643 in Total Compensation

and with social programs being the primary receiver of taxes, and which is related to the progressive decline in the character of Americans (thus requiring more gov. help, as well as control),

then I think there should be much trimming of government, as well as dependence upon government, and its fostering of related character, which non-gov. orgs can help.

And as it is, having lived 72 years, and in an offically “low income” densely populated city for 30, and (partly due to credit, plus welfare), I have only seen Americans become more wealthy, materially at least. How Americans compare with the global middle class The US stands head and shoulders above the rest of the world. More than half (56%) of Americans were high income by the global standard,

The poorest 20% of Americans are richer on averageA ground-breaking study by Just Facts has discovered that after accounting for all income, charity, and non-cash welfare benefits like subsidized housing and food stamps, the poorest 20 percent of Americans consume more goods and services than the national averages for all people in most affluent countries.

Oregon Local News, Breaking News, Sports & Weather › hovde Aug 4, 2012 — If your family income is $10,000 a year, you are wealthier than 84 percent of the world

The Poorest 20% of Americans Are Richer on Average ... Comparing the U.S. with Europe | City Journal According to the World Bank, 2023 per capita GDP adjusted for purchasing power in the United States is more than one-third higher than that of the EU, at $81,695 vs. $60,350. Disposable incomes favor the U.S. as well.

Countries with the highest wealth per adult 2022 In 2022, Switzerland led the ranking of countries with the highest average wealth per adult, with approximately 685,000 U.S. dollars per person. The United States was ranked second with an average wealth of around 550,000 U.S. dollars per adult
