The wife of slain health insurance CEO Brian Thompson claimed Wednesday that her husband had been getting threats before he was gunned down in Midtown Manhattan.
“There had been some threats,” Paulette Thompson told NBC News in her first comments since her husband was murdered early Wednesday.
“Basically, I don’t know, a lack of coverage?” she said, referring to her 50-year-old husband’s role as CEO of UnitedHealthcare’s insurance division.
“I don’t know details. I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him,” she told NBC News by phone.
“I can’t really give a thoughtful response right now. I just found this out and I’m trying to console my children,” she said, confirming that police had told her it is believed to have been a “targeted attack.”
Brian Thompson, 50, was shot in the chest early Wednesday morning by a masked man who was waiting for him outside the Hilton hotel as he headed to a conference. He was rushed in critical condition to the Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
No arrests have been made. Crime Stoppers are offering a $10,000 reward for information.

I guess the weren’t “threats” but actual plans.
Live by the claim denial, die by the claim denial.
I wonder if his ambulance service was covered by his health insurance or if he had made his deductible?
I guess we now know that taking customers’ good money for years and then denying claims isn’t a victimless crime. Who knew?
They recently did away with some plans, there are also people who lost or were denied coverage. All the insurance companies have raised premiums to the point where few can afford them.
Hope he had good healthcare.....................
A disgruntled insured was my first theory, but the wife just moved up the list for me.
Not sure why. The answer seems strange.
Wow, merciless responses.
I would expect probably all CEOs of major corporations get continued threats.
Same here. Odd response.

Mr Thompson was in charge of UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement and Community & State divisions from 2004 until 2021 when they made him CEO of UnitedHealthcare Group. He was a 30 year old when put in charge of the Medicare Unit. Denied so many claims that ended up in increased profits for the company earning him the top spot at age 47. Before anyone gives condolences, think about the pile of bodies he stood upon to reach that $10+ million dollar yearly salary he and his family enjoyed.
Of course while consoling her children she had time to provide interviews for the media.
This statement is outrageous.
I think the UHC branch of united health group is based in Brentwood tn whereas the parent company is in Minnetonka
United health group is fifth largest company revenue wise in USA up there with Walmart Berkshire Hathaway Amazon and of course Apple
This poor fellow ran the biggest branch which handled benefits
I live close by and know a number of executives there mostly through my kids and school
This was a punitive hit obviously
Given how health insurance companies operate, I would assume every CEO of every insurance company has threats non stop.
Re: 14 - wow. Well, it’s expected, considering.
