Trump picks Florida sheriff Chad Chronister to lead DEA

President-elect Donald Trump announced Saturday that he is tapping Republican Florida sheriff Chad Chronister to serve as administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

In a post to his Truth Social platform, Trump said Chronister will work with former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, Trump's pick to lead the Department of Justice, "to secure the Border, stop the flow of Fentanyl, and other Illegal Drugs, across the Southern Border."

Bondi was chosen by Trump after his previous selection, former Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, withdrew his nomination amid a House Ethics Committee investigation into allegations against him of sexual misconduct.

Chronister has been sheriff of Florida's Hillsborough County since being appointed to the role by then-Gov. Rick Scott 2017, and has since won reelection twice. He has been with the department for 32 years. Hillsborough County includes much of the Tampa Bay metro area.

If confirmed by the Senate, he would replace outgoing DEA Administrator Anne Milgram, who has held the role for nearly the entirety of President Biden's term.

In a statement provided to CBS affiliate WTSP, Chronister called it "the honor of a lifetime to be nominated," adding that he was "deeply humbled by this opportunity to serve our nation."

The DEA, which is part of the Justice Department, has approximately 10,000 employees and is tasked with enforcing America's drug laws. Among its major edicts has been addressing the opioid crisis.

In an interview with "60 Minutes" in September, Milgram said the U.S. is "losing a generation" to fentanyl.

The cartels must have a big hold on some in administration now, IMHO, for what has occurred with the failure to stop wholesale swaths of the country being poisoned by drugs.

“Anne Milgram - failure on every level”

No kidding. I’m sitting here wondering “Anne WHO???” You know somebody isn’t doing a good job or trying very hard when they are anonymous and in the background.

Sounds like a Pam Bondi pick. Nothing wrong with that.

“Another Friend of Jill?”

I just looked to see how Biden found her, but could not find anything on how she got nominated. She was the AG in New Jersey for a couple of years.

“Milgram clerked for United States District Court Judge Anne Elise Thompson in Trenton, from 1996 to 1997.[7] In 1997, she began her career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Milgram later worked in the Criminal Section of the Civil Rights Division, United States Department of Justice, where she served as the special litigation counsel for human trafficking and led the department’s human trafficking prosecutions. Milgram was counsel to Senator Jon Corzine during his final year in the United States Senate.”

“One thing led to another, we talked and today he came to the house,” Howard-Browne recalled a week later during his nightly show The Great Awakening . “We had a meal together, we spent three hours talking about the county and opening up the county.”

Howard-Browne and his wife Adonica, a pastor and co-founder of the River, posted a photo of themselves with Chronister on their Facebook page. Chronister is in street clothes. All three are smiling.

I just shook my head, when I read about Sheriff Chronister. The first thing that came to mind is how the department he leads has been protecting Carole Baskin for YEARS now.

Same sheriff gave paid days off to vaccinated employees if they had to quarantine after exposure to COVID. He made unvaccinated employees take vacation days if they had to quarantine.
