What might Winston Churchill think of Donald Trump?
The Hill ^ | 11/30/2024 | Robert Schmuhl

“What do you think Donald Trump would make of Winston Churchill?”

That out-of-the-blue question was asked the other day at Churchill’s home, Chartwell, outside London, where I was speaking about the former British prime minister’s relationships with Franklin Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower during the 1940s and 1950s. Haltingly, with some reluctance to discuss American politics in such a historic setting, I responded that Trump prominently displayed a bust of Churchill in the Oval Office throughout his previous White House term.

Churchill’s face of bulldog, never-surrender tenacity often appeared over the president’s left shoulder in photographs and television reports. The presence of the bust certainly displayed Trump’s admiration for the United Kingdom’s wartime leader, I said, subsequently learning it will return to the president-elect’s office after the January inauguration.

While we're at it why don't we ask Bush 41, Reagan Nixon, Margaret Thatcher, and Gerald Ford what they think of trump? Wait we can't because they all just passed away. All guessing

Did this article answer the question posed in the title?

No. It is simply pontificating without answering the question. Waste of time.

"What might Winston Churchill think of Donald Trump?"

He might keep a bust of President Trump on his desk as a symbol of tenacity.

I think Churchill would be a great admirer of Trump.

Churchill once said after a particularly gurling session with the British High Command

“I am forced to wage modern war with ancient weapons”

Much the same view Trump has of the DC Politcal/media class. I class still stuck firmly in an FDR style “New Deal” mindset

“Haltingly, with some reluctance to discuss American politics in such a historic setting,”

Pussy. Churchill’s mom was American. He spent massive amounts of time traveling here in the 1920s. He wrote a log series of articles about his travels here in America. He wrote a deep well regarded history of America up to the Civil War. His Iron Curtain speech was delivered in Missouri.

And all this British coward can dream up is that he had Churchill’s bust in his office.

Idiot.

"As I pointed out at Chartwell, democracy invariably produces more losers than winners. Voters decide who will be their leaders and who will govern. The peoples’ say counts and deserves collective trust. As tactfully as possible, I questioned Trump’s allegiance to that way of thinking. "

No, but the author kind of mentioned what he thought of Donald Trump. Negative, jab about Trump questioning the 2020 vote. Which I would add was stolen from Trump by cheaters who didn't want the peoples' say to count.

Churchill in his younger days could shine up Asquith and similar but after middle age he was more concerned with fulfilling his perceived role and bombastically ran over many contemporaries. Trump is similar — he has the bit in his teeth and is at the gate. People with great intellect and a driven vision are hard task-masters. Once PM after Dunkirk, WC would start all memos, instructions and directions with these words: Action This Day.

Heh, we know what Churchhill would said about Bubbah, the Hillabeast, Joe Dumbass, and we won’t even start laughing about what he’d say about the Ho.

I'll guess he would pass on these thoughts believing he would be listened to.

“You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.”

“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”

L “The main vice of capitalism is the uneven distribution of prosperity. The main vice of socialism is the even distribution of misery.”

The Brits (including the academics like this guy) got rid of Churchill before putting him back just as the USA has done with Trump.

Meanwhile, Obama removed Churchill’s bust from the White House he thought so little of him.

“What do you think Donald Trump would make of Winston Churchill?”

Churchill believed his country was the best and wanted to do the best he could for it. He fought to the bitter end to do so.

Trump does the same.

I think they would get along.

Throw in Benjamin Netanyahu, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan and Augusto Pinochet and I’d see it too.
