Thousands of Amazon workers in over 20 countries are gearing up for demonstrations and work stoppages during the Black Friday shopping weekend, demanding better working conditions, union rights, and environmental responsibility from the e-commerce giant.
The Guardian reports that as consumers prepare for the Black Friday shopping frenzy, Amazon workers worldwide are plotting labor action against the e-commerce giant. Coordinated by the Make Amazon Pay campaign, an alliance of more than 80 trade unions and workers’ rights groups, employees and their representatives plan to protest and strike against the Seattle-based company’s practices between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

I worked at a ship supply company and when the Union came in the company fired half of us to pay the other half that had to do twice the work ,LOL
With Christmas near, there’s gonna be a whole lot of people pissed about this if it lasts any time....

That scenario is the functional definition of what a union is. Add to that, the huge rake right off the top for union officials and the fact that unions send your dues to DC in support of politicians and policies you would NEVER vote for!
What could go wrong?
Finally, hopefully it keeps those dang Amazon trucks out of my neighborhood
About 12 years ago before Amazon got their own vans, I use to work for Fedex during the holiday season for extra money, and every day without fail I would have an Amazon package for this house that had endless packages stacked outside the front door, I mean hundreds of them, a lot of them destroyed from rain and I asked my boss what’s going on? He said the person living there was completely legit, that they didn’t care if it’s never opened, that’s how they like it. So for the next two months every day without fail I would drop off a packagae from Amazon lol Completely insane, I wonder what the neighbors thought. BUt no wonder Amazon is so huge, people are absolutely addicted to ordering from them.
Crazy
Netflix has a consumer documentary that is really a green earth protect the planet thing. But in the first part of the documentary a former Amazon web designer described how they designed the site to encourage people to buy things. Even down to the color of the buttons. The “one click” is a bit addictive for some.
I do wonder what some credit card statements look like these days.
When your corporte culture is a purveryor of WOKE, your employees minds’ are broked.
My son works for AWS in .5M job and not actually associated with the storefront, but Amazon’s stock is One-for-all-Divisions. In his area of the operation, something is afoot and Amazon seems to have gotten a dose of reality. They no longer put up with “business as usual BS”, and people are not wearing their politics on a lapel pin lately. He told me Amazon is going to root out the Wokeness and those who are not happy with their paychecks... that they are telling people you have an actual job and for what you get in compensation you must produce or you are let go.
Amazon will let people go at the end of their annual hiring dates or a predetermined review date.
I wonder how this is being covered by the Washington Post.
Lol.
Thanks for the ear to the ground—that is one of the great features of this place.
In Greensboro NC the FEDEX is engaged in creepy hiring practices and the owner is hiring people for $15 an hour without contacts. I spoke to his closest pal in a circle of friends just last night. I know a bit about FedEX and UPS drivers becasue both companies were engaged in talks with my son last spring. This guy is paying 150 USD a day over the counter and dodging the taxes. WHAT COULD GO WRONG.
“people are absolutely addicted to ordering from them”
Yep, that is definitely a thing, and likely more common than we think.
From the article “ This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Make Amazon Pay protests,..”
If this is their fifth year, I’ve never even noticed. I’m betting the actual workers aren’t striking. This is just some global BS which is noticeable when they talk about they are also protesting lack of environmental sustainability.
Sounds like my Saturday delivery might be ‘late’.
I’m surprised that the ‘porch pirates’ didn’t target that place.
