Washington state’s trucking industry is urging Gov. Jay Inslee to reconsider a first of the year commitment to align with California’s Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) regulation, which requires a certain percentage of so called "zero emissions" (ZEV) trucks to be sold in the state.
This goes back to 2020, when Washington lawmakers committed to follow California’s strict emissions mandates.
It got more critical last month when on Oct. 23, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) amended its ACT standards to require manufacturers to gradually increase the percentage of zero-emission vehicles they sell with targets from 4% to 7%.
Washington has agreed to be in lock step with the California mandates when the new changes to take effect Jan 1.
“The bill that was passed in 2020 has permanently ceded our authority unless we decide to unlink ourselves from California,” said Washington State Truckers Association CEO Sheri Call in a Thursday interview with The Center Square.
The new rules apply to large trucks and RV’s that weigh more than 8,500 pounds, with a requirement that sellers first prove they have sold a certain percentage of zero-emission vehicles, before they can sell the traditional gas- and diesel-powered rigs.

Meantime, Call says truck sales and operations are going across the state border.
“Idaho is not too far away, and they are not a CARB adopting state and subject to these policies, so a lot of our members unfortunately who still need to serve their customers at a price competitive point, are operating from Idaho as it’s more appealing to them,” said Call.

The trucking industry just needs to quit delivering to California, Washington State, and any other state that has signed on to these regulations.
Eventually, the voters might come to their senses and demand a change.
California pulled this once before, a quarter century ago. It passed a law that 10% of all passenger cars sold in CA starting in model year 2000 must be zero emission. General Motors spent over $2 billion developing the GM EV. It was the only world company to do it. That was back when $2 billion was a LOT of money, too.
The problem was when 2000 came along, no one in California wanted to buy them. GM only sold a handful of them. They even tried a dirt cheap lease plan, with few takers. So, what did California do? They simple cancelled the law. Viola! No problem!
Except for....GM. A couple of years later they went bankrupt, much to the chagrin of many pf its employees and suppliers. Had GM not flushed the $2 billion down the drain, they likely would have survived the recession that caused the bankruptcy.
I know, because I was a GM employee at the time, and did a bit of work on the EV. It was a very interesting car. GM even offered an inductive charging system for it. It offered induction coils installed on the garage floor. You would simply park over the coils, and the car would automatically charge.
It would be a shame if trucks stopped showing up at WA grocery stores.
My Costco at the time, in a north Atlanta suburb, put in a couple charging stations for that car. Probably at GM’s expense.
What exactly is a zero-emission vehicle when the electricity comes power plants, some of which are still coal fired. In which case the zero-emission vehicle description is a joke.
Are there even any EV heavy trucks available on the market?
As a Washington State resident I have only one thing to say about your statement…From Your Lips To God’s Ears!
A Tesla semi is twice the price of a diesel, but it would serve western Washington right to pay more for everything.
“He wants it...he gets it.”
Lucky there are no emissions in the manufacture of them......oh.
An EV semi crashed in I-80 between Reno & Sacramento this summer.
Took HOURS FOR THE FIRE TO BE PUT OUT
TRAFFIC was STOPPED COLD for hours-—even tho the truck was OFF the freeway, down an embankment, in the trees.

Out of state truck sales endues gives hat tip.
Inslee is moving to Idaho...watch out
Such a beautiful state too. There must be something in the Pacific that turns people insane.
Unfortunately it’s not just the vehicle sellers, the manufacturers are also caught up in this communist scam which means even if the sellers have buyers for regular trucks they can’t get them unless they sell the “green garbage” first. Trucking companies are buying a few of the green garbage units and letting them rot in the yard so they can buy real trucks.

I go back and forth between “surely they can’t be this stupid” and “these people are really evil”.
Do they have advisors that explain to them the trickle-down effect of policies such as this? Do they they just surround themselves with other ignorant idiots? Or, are they aware of what they are doing?
Is it ignorance or true deliberate evilness to destroy as much of our nation’s economy as possible?
“ Do they have advisors that explain to them the trickle-down effect of policies such as this?”
Of course they do. They simply ignore them.
“ Or, are they aware of what they are doing?”
The worst of them do. The rest are just useful idiots.
