Donald Trump to tap Scott Bessent for Treasury secretary, ending fierce battle for key job: sources

President-elect Donald Trump will name hedge fund mogul Scott Bessent as the next treasury secretary, four sources tell The Post, ending a rough-and-tumble race that saw fierce jockeying among power players across Wall Street.

Bessent “got the thumbs up” late Thursday during a meeting with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., one source close to the situation told The Post.

A flurry of last-minute media report have floated a slew of candidates. Late Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported that financier Kevin Warsh had met with Trump on Wednesday about the Treasury post — and possibly replacing Jerome Powell as Fed chairman when his term expires in 2026.

Trump also met about the Treasury role with Marc Rowan, the billionaire boss of buyout firm Apollo Global Management, at Mar-a-Lago earlier this week.

I've yet to see any official word from Trump himself but this is being reported at several sites. Bessent's name was being touted as his pick a couple weeks ago. We shall see.

A supposed repentant Soros guy. For now, I’m betting that PDJT has learned his lessons.

Bessent is - or was - most definitely a Soros guy. Most definitely.

I’m starting to be concerned, just a little. I’d like to see Trump appoint solid middle Americans, folks who carry no baggage from any previous connections.

I’m not seeing this in every case. Trump is a smart guy, and he knows more than I do.

On the other hand, someone might be whispering in his ear who shouldn’t be whispering in his ear. Time will tell, I guess.

Bessent and Trump agree on economic policy, and he raised $57 million for Trump’s campaign. Look for a stock market bump on Monday. Good enough for me.

Bessent also raised money for Al Gore in 2000. And he was a partner - not just a coffee boy - in a George Soros company.

So is Bessent a convert, or is he a snake opportunist? I would prefer that an
appointment not even raise such a question. But that’s just me.

I agree. It will be business as usual,,,without the radical, far-left bias.

Would love to find out who the “source” is who’s leaking this information.

I was thinking that same thing. Converts to the cause can be very fierce and very loyal. Or they can be saboteurs, just waiting strike.

Trump’s first cabinet was filled to the brim with saboteurs. We can only hope that his second cabinet will be far different.

Well, I respect your opinion, but she supported Clinton, and was a democrat until 2000. I would disagree with your statement based on that alone.

“But that’s just me.”

Yup, that’s just you.

Have you looked at how many people in the incoming administration raised or donated money to the Democrats? That includes Musk, Gabbard, RFK, Ramaswamy, Shanahan, AND Trump.

He worked for a Soros fund. Claims he as well as the company were not involved in Soros’s political activities.
