British-made Storm Shadow missiles have been fired into Russian territory by Ukraine for the first time, a source has told Sky News.
What are Storm Shadow missiles?
The UK became the first country to publicly supply Kyiv with longer-range cruise missiles last summer.
It allowed Ukrainian forces to hit Russian troops and supply depots far behind the front lines before it launched what would become a limited counteroffensive last year.
The decision prompted an angry Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to deem Britain "at the forefront" of allies "pumping weapons into Ukraine".
The five-metre, air-to-air missiles were invented in the mid-1990s by the UK and France and have since been deployed in conflict zones in Iraq and Libya.
After being launched by a bomber plane, each missile can travel up to 155 miles and weighs more than a small car.
It is designed to hit static, fortified, high-value targets - at a cost of £2m a missile.
The missile contains two warheads - the first penetrates through fortifications and the second travels through the hole and explodes.

Russians claim their air defenses shot down 5 of 6 ATACMS missiles fired on Tuesday morning. Anyone believe that? The IDF made Russian S-300 defenses in Iran look like a child shooting bottle rockets. Are the S-400s in Russia that much better? Or they are lying?
Based on what we’ve seen in the past 24 hours, it’s likely that the Russians will take out the embassies in Kiev first.

The policies of both the US and Russia are that staging nuclear-capable missiles on their respective borders should meet a nuclear response because there is no way of knowing if those staged missiles are nuclear-tipped when they are traveling at Mach 5 toward a military installation.
I hope President Trump is in touch with Putin over this.

Short range missiles with a 160 mile max range. They are not going to strike deep into the heart of Russia anymore than the short range US made ATACMS missiles will.
Putin is certainly not going to start blowing off strategic nukes over this. Why should he? In a couple of mos Trump will get sworn and Putin will get 95% of what he wants at the negotiating table.
