The Ford Motor Co. will reduce its workforce by upwards of 4,000 across Europe and the U.K. by the end of 2027, the manufacturer announced Wednesday, citing headwinds generated from the economy, pressure from increased competition and weaker than expected sales of electric vehicles (EVs) for the dim forecast.
Most of the job cuts would come in Germany and would be carried out in consultation with employee representatives, AP reports.
The company also plans to reduce working time for workers at its Cologne, Germany plant where it makes the Capri and Explorer electric vehicles.

Nobody wants electric vehicles. An obvious solution on the part of governments is to require them to be purchased by the peasants. Remove choice.

I had a 1988 Ford Crown Victoria. Best car I ever owned.
5.0 was a great engine

Still available...........................
1994 Buick Park Avenue. It ran forever until rust claimed her frame structures. Almost 400,000 miles with just oil changes, one set of brake pads, and a few sensors.
Mine achieved 30MPG.
I sold the Crown Vic at 257,000 miles. Original spark plugs, fuel injectors, etc., and still running great.
When will EV owners find out their cars are worthless ? or do they already know it ?
Oh the hwy?
My mom had a 2003 Century. Lasted 200,000
Nope. Too dumb to know it.
What the gov't wants is for the EVs to be used and disposed of like smartphones. To obtain this, the costs need to be reduced an impossible 90%. Even at that, there'd be the issue of millions of dangerous EV batteries to dispose of every year.
EV’s? Lol! More popcorn!
Remove govt subsidies and let the real world decide EV sales.
I noticed that a couple of weeks ago that auto companies switched from TV ads trying to sell just EVs to TV ads selling their whole lineups ...
[and when they WERE trying to sell EVs, they never mentioned that the autos being sold WERE EVs; one had to look up the name badges online to find out ... of course, one always had suspicions because the front grills were solid, with no gaps to admit combustion air ... hey, i know, EV makers should fake the front grills to look like ICE cars, just like they fake ICE car engine sounds ... that way, they could trick more people into their showrooms.]
“Aside from a lack of electric charging stations and consumer nervousness over reliability, the unit cost of EVs coupled with rapid depreciation remain among the prime reasons consumers are giving for sticking to petrol-powered cars.”
lots of no-brainer reasons not to buy ... and article says “just some of the reasons”, too ..
“Even at that, there’d be the issue of millions of dangerous EV batteries to dispose of every year.”
i haven’t bothered to look into it, but i can’t imagine that there won’t be steep charge to put a used EV into a junk yard ... expensive equipment to determine if the battery is fully discharged (if such determination is even 100% possible) and the expense to safely and properly dispose of a ton of used lithium per auto ... lots and lots of liability ...
Mostly. My commute was 38 miles one way. Of that, nine miles were surface streets. Of course, I drive very smoothly. No jackrabbit starts, no slamming on brakes at the last minute.
When I first bought the car it had 107,000 miles and drove like a new car. I fueled up at the same pump several times to be sure because I couldn't believe the fuel mileage.
My 1988 had 79,000 when I bought it
