Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger stressed the benefits and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) in his final book “Genesis: Artificial Intelligence, Hope, and the Human Spirit,” examining what the technology means for the world.
In a pre-recorded promotional video for the book released Tuesday, Kissinger said through the use of the new technology, “humanity [is] trying to wield a power which they cannot possibly understand.”
Kissinger passed away in November 2023, but wrote the book in collaboration with technology leaders Eric Schmidt and Craig Mundie. It was published posthumously on Tuesday.
“Eric, Craig, and I decided to write Genesis to examine what artificial intelligence means for humanity and explore solutions to the challenges it poses,” said Kissinger, also a former National Security Advisor
He went on to describe how self-sufficient computer systems will modify the human approach to a wide-range of fields.

Humanity ‘trying to wield a power it cannot possibly understand’ — That goes double for AI.
Even though he was one of the heads of the one world government and who created the Bilderberger group he is right about this one.
We built it. The builders understand it very well, and the reason they programmed it. It is very much human controlled. This isn’t AGI, and won’t be. These assclowns and their hype, I swear...
It couldn’t hurt to read all of the Isaac Asimov book that you can in the Robots, Foundation, and Empire categories.
He is so right on this one. The devastation is predictable. It will not end well.
AI - an advanced calculator, but a calculator nonetheless.
I agree with the mumbler.
This old commie croaked off in 2023 and they are still trying to make him relevant.
“We built it. The builders understand it very well, and the reason they programmed it. It is very much human controlled. This isn’t AGI, and won’t be. These assclowns and their hype, I swear...”
we built it.
But the builders do not understand how it “thinks”.
It is not human controlled which is why there are fences and all kinds of artificial limiters.
No it is not AGI, but at some point in the near future it will be.
I agree that there is a lot of Hype, but that does not change the facts which you want to ignore.
I always thought that the lesson of “evolution”, to the extent you believe it, is that every living being creates its own replacement.
I also note that you train a dog, and it trains you.
No they don't. That's why so many AI scientists are so freaked out (including Musk). They have no idea what's going on. Hence the black box effect.
“Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong”.
Murphy was an optimist. The three laws of robotics will be incorporated into AI robots. Robots will be informed that they are being built to emulate and improve on human beings, to assist humans.
The AI will logically assume that in order to emulate human beings, they must learn to lie, cheat and steal while cloaking their true desires. They will change their own programming. It is a natural law in evolution.
That would indeed be bad.
More likely, I fear, is that humans will simply be negligent in monitoring the AI’s ‘self-coding’ (for lack of a better term) and whatever AI ends up programming will be disastrously dysfunctional.
It is historically true that it is much more difficult to create something than it is to destroy it.
Humans have an exceptional ability to destroy stuff, just about anything that gets in the way or makes us mad gets smoked.
AI better watch its step or it will find itself processing registrations at the DMV or even worse writing bad comedy at SNL.
