Actress and filmmaker Justine Bateman is applauding the return of President-elect Donald Trump to the White House as a liberating force for all those who value freedom of speech and expression.
She said it feels like a cloud has been lifted with Trump’s runaway victory.
“I feel good. I feel great, in fact,” Bateman told Fox News Digital in an interview.
“I feel like there was this kind of suffocating cloud that was kind of over us… Regular people who had questions about decisions that were being made were threatened subtly or obviously into silence. And I feel like that’s been broken, that sort of suppression has been kind of broken.”
Bateman, best known for playing Mallory Keaton on the hit 1980s sitcom Family Ties, recently went viral for referring to the last four years as being “a very un-American period” for free expression and that only “permitted positions” were accepted by the powers that be.
“My belief is that everyone should be free to live their life exactly how they want to live it. But not impinging on somebody else’s ability to also live their life as freely as they want to live it,” Bateman told Fox News Digital. I’m confused. My recollection was she used to be a big leftie. Did she have a change of heart or am I just confused.
She’s still very much to the left of center I think - but smart enough to realize how bad things were getting on so many levels. Check out her posts on X- she has a fantastically dry sense of humor. She went to film school if I’m not mistaken- so she rips the crazy libs posts apart by critiquing their tik tok ego clips- I doubt the nuts even know what hit them but it is really tongue in cheek funny. I doubt her brother talks to her- he is full on in for all the kool-aid.
Her comments are a real, pleasant surprise. I also applaud the fact that she is not an aging female actress who gets plastic surgery to stay young looking. I may actually watch one or two of her movies as a result of this.

Boy is she right. As Trump’s victory sinks in, that’s exactly what it feels like.
I wonder if the breaking of the woke spell means Hollywood might get its act together and start making good, creative films again.

Quite a difference between those two, I think. Michael J. is a rabid leftist. I remember him sticking his nose in on a close Congressional race and bragged about not taking his meds so that he could shake uncontrollably when being interviewed for his support of whatever......
I always liked her and would watch anything in which she appeared.

Even though as a kid i had the hots for Mallory i never kept up with the actress. But several years ago i saw something about her becoming a Christian which led me to believe she wasn’t a typical Hollywood lefty.
So i wasn’t all that surprised when i heard about her recent postings on X. In Hollywood she is no doubt seen now as a far right loon but of course their perception is totally off. In reality she is probably in the center or center left.
Incidentally she was on Watters the other day. She didn’t like that he introduced her by showing a clip from Family Ties, saying that she is now a writer and something else (i forget what). It reminded me of Jim Brown who took umbrage at being described as a former football star. Anyway, all in all she came across as a bit pompous which was somewhat disappointing to me.
She’s the female version of Bill Maher. Left but honest.
