A PASTORAL LETTER FROM THE COUNCIL OF BISHOPS OF THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
“Now faith, hope, and love remain…and the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13 CEB
Thursday, November 7, 2024
Greetings,
May the grace of God and the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirits. Amid the change and uncertainty that have resulted from the recent U.S. elections, and the ways in which these matters will impact the whole world, we remember that we are held by the enduring power of God’s love and the call to be agents of that love in the world.
We find ourselves at a critical historical juncture that future generations will scrutinize. It presses upon the Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church, a worldwide body, to speak and act with moral clarity, guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ and our commitment to justice and compassion for all.
We affirm the inherent dignity of all God’s children. As our Social Principles remind us, “God calls all members of the human family to recognize and protect the dignity and worth of all people.” The lessons of history teach us the dangers of silence in the face of threats to human rights. Therefore, we cannot remain silent. We call upon all United Methodists to exercise their faith and to pray, speak, and act for justice and peace.
Our baptismal vows call us “to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves.” We therefore reject rhetoric, policies, and actions that demean or discriminate against any of God’s children and will be vigilant in defending the rights of the vulnerable and speaking out against oppression.
To people of all generations, especially our young, who yearn for a more just and inclusive world, your vision and passion give us hope. We commit to working alongside you to build the beloved community that reflects God’s kingdom on earth. In the days ahead, we will continue this vital work uninterrupted and with renewed vigor. And we commit ourselves to prayer for our political leaders around the globe.

Be rooted in Christ!
The August 19 date refers solely to the adoption of the gaysbian agenda, NOT to the “Full Communion” agreement.
Stuff like this is why I left the UMC. I’m much happier at my Calvary Baptist Church. They adhere to Biblical principles.
Not much “love” there, is there.

Name one coming from the right?
Did you speak out against the Jan 6 trespassers being put in solitary and comitting suice?
Did you speak out when the left called conservatives Nazi’s and what about all the victims of cancel culture who’s only crime was telling the truth.
Right message, wrong party.
WTF have you been?
You people are hypocrits and touting communist propaganda.
Sickening you.
Isaiah 5:20
King James Version
20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Sounds familiar. I don’t attend church anymore. I’ve seen so many greedy and unfaithful pastors that I prefer to worship God in my own way.

I certainly understand your frustration. We found a local, small non-denominational church that adheres to Biblical principles and values. We are a vibrant church family that has numerous young families and we are growing very rapidly. Look for a similar church in your community.
Whitewashed tombs...
I agree and add this Old Testament line -
Leviticus 20:13
There are several others as well.
The Bible - old school....and harsh.
Nope, not at all.
Well said, you just exposed their hypocrisy and petty slavish devotion to the demonrat party.
The “mainstream” Protestant churches are dying off very rapidly. Most of them have turned into Sunday morning social clubs. Meanwhile, the independent Biblical churches are growing very rapidly. We attend a small church that started with about 60 people, we are approaching more than 300 regular attendees and are still growing. Our senior pastor recently had a sermon about the evils of homosexuality, no one left.
They can “council”, “partner”, twist, turn, shape change, whatever makes em feel good, but the bottom line is:
“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”
Isa. 40.8
My congregation abandoned the UMC a couple years ago. Christ warned us....
He sure did.
We now return you to our usual faggotry and liberal BS.
Women Bishops marrying women is telling. The headquarters of the UMC are all for LGBT+. They also favor open borders and encourage activism to that purpose.
We have two residences. In Florida, the pastor and congregation left the United Methodists and joined the more conservative Global Methodists. We got to keep the church building.
In Georgia there was some funny business. The pastor said there would be discussion before the vote. There was no discussion. People showed up that we’d never seen before ready to vote against “troublemakers.” Cheating won out. About a third of the church bolted to form a new church.
It said absolutely nothing. Did Kamala write this?
The esteemed Bishop. I think I see your problem.
I left the UMC in 1986. The minister was a obnoxious liberal and called me a non-Christian.
My uncle was the EUB rep at the 1968 merger with the Methodist Church to become the United Methodist church.
