U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized approximately 11,000 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition being smuggled into the United States from Mexico.
CBP officers assigned to the El Paso port of entry on November 5 encountered a 2011 Honda Ridgeline arriving from Mexico. The officer directed the driver, a Mexican national, to a secondary inspection station after a “Low Energy Portal Scan” revealed possible anomalies.
A K-9 search and a secondary Z-portal x-ray scan confirmed the anomalies. Officers began a physical search of the vehicle and discovered multiple plastic bags packed with loose 7.62 ammunition, according to a statement from CBP officials.
In total, the officers recovered 11,100 rounds of ammunition.

Just another cartel operative doing what he does best.
I thought this kind of smuggling would have been going the other way.
11,000 rounds?
Pshaw!
They’re not bringing in the ammo for sale to Second Amendment American Patriots ...
No telling what was going on here. But the worst case would be the supply of ammunition for some kind of attack planned on the US.
What an idiot. Smuggling sand to the beach? In an afternoon somebody could walk into five gun stores, pick up two cases of 762X39, pay with cash. Nobody would even notice or care. I guess we’re not up against the joker and the Riddler here.
Like sending coals to Newcastle....
Awww the good old days! When these things happened and all we could do is hope for the best and protect our families with a stick. Those days are about to end
I remember buying steel- cased 7.62 and .223 1000 round boxes for $100. Don’t know what they go for now.
America needs to sue Mexico for this crap. If they can sue American gun manufacturers, we sure as hell can sue them for bringing in ammunition.
Not very smart. He could have just bought it at the local stores. Smuggling it means jail time.
Kinda feel sorry for him - he clearly misunderstood the whole ‘Flow of Goods’ concept from Eon 101 and was caught bringing coals to Newcastle.
In Texas, that would barely cover a weekend camping trip.
Preparing for a war in the USA?
Is it 7.62x39 (AK-47/SKS) or 7.62x51 (NATO/.308)?
11,000 rounds is just 22 500-round bricks of .22LR.
7.62 X what? I presume 39, but there are those little goodies that fit into M14’s and M60’s.
I buy bulk ammo, some of it in 1,000 round cases. The point being, why would anyone want to risk sneaking this stuff across the border when it can be legally purchased with no questions asked?
For example 1,000 rounds of 7.62 x 39 can be had for $580 plus shipping. This is Wolf brand at Lucky Gunner. That’s cheap compared to jail time.
Thanks to all our open borders monkeys, the USA is the cartel wetback's new frontier. They plan to murder the opposition in Humboldt County and hang the headless bodies from the overpass. Straight out of Sicario. Right in America. What jorge busho and company want.
How many ammo cannisters - or how many bags for 11,000 rounds?
