CNN anchor Chris Wallace announced on Monday that he would leave the network at the end of his contract, citing the growing influence of podcasters such as Joe Rogan and Charlamagne tha God.
Wallace – who joined CNN in January 2022 after nearly 20 years at Fox News – told the Daily Beast he would leave the network at the end of his three-year contract in favor of independent broadcasting.
Describing podcasts and streaming platforms as “where the action seems to be,” Wallace pointed to Rogan and Charlamagne’s influence during the 2024 election, before adding, “I don’t flatter myself to think I will have that sort of reach.”
The Daily Beast noted that Wallace’s decision not negotiate his contract at CNN “comes as other anchors face being fired or having salaries cut as declining ratings and cord-cutting hit the industry’s bottom line.”
Last month, journalist Lachlan Cartwright reported that CNN CEO Mark Thompson had offered Wallace “a new deal for significantly less than the $8.5 million pact he inked under former CNN boss Jeff Zucker.”
In a statement on Monday, Thompson said, “Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast television, cable television and streaming. We want to thank him for the dedication and wisdom he’s brought to all his work at CNN and to wish him the very best for future.”
Wallace will continue to appear on CNN until the end of the year.

If Wallace thinks he's going to break into the podcast market, isn't that what CNN+ was supposed to do for him? Wallace was supposed to be the "anchor store" at the CNN+ mall, and he failed miserably.
It's ironic that out of the trio of FNC moderators at the infamous August 2015 Republican primary debate, Bret Baier survived and thrived as the replacement for Brit Hume, Megyn Kelly seems to have redeemed herself with President-Elect Trump, and Wallace is still an outcast in his own industry.

“I don’t flatter myself to think I will have that sort of reach.”
Good thing!
I bet he thinks he can make it as a podcaster but he is going to be left in the dust.
We are watching the collapse of old style news as it so richly deserves. Failure to be unbiased, fair journalists who states the real news instead of opinions, lies and smut is where the mainstream media has fallen. They deserve nothing but our contempt and forevermore switching off their brand of fake news. Oh, and guess who really outed them: Yep, President and now soon to be new President Donald JTrump!
He thinks he can transition to YouTube and a Podcast, except no one cares about him, he just needs to retire. He is part of the old Legacy Media and will not fit in with the New Media. Should have taken the paycut and stayed at CNN till the doors close.
Well done.
No one listens to Wallace now. No one will listen or subscribe to a podcast for him later.
If CNN is serious about re-centering their broadcasts, they will replace Wallace with a more conservative “news reader”. Scott Jennings is fantastic and I watch the video clips of him trying to explain facts to his fellow panelists. They are all clueless. Make Jennings the vocal point of a show and some viewers may return. Bring others like him and the site may become relevant once again.
However, the fact is that the old establishment media is going, going, and almost gone. For this past election, more young people (and many of us old fogies as well) got their news and information from podcasts. But not the podcasts that just regurgitate the left’s narrative on CNN or MSNBC.
People are looking for real news and critical thinking opinions. The mainstream media stopped providing that a few decades ago.
thank you!
The Trump Revenge Tour is in full swing.
This is a BRILLIANT move.
Look at the great careers that have followed these geniuses after parting with their sugar daddy:
Dan Rather
Katie Couric
Bill O’Rielly
Keith Olbermann
Brian Williams
Megyan Kelly
Oh wait…..
Hopefully going to those “far away places” in the phone contract ads with people next to Arctic sheep or watching swamp frogs jump into the water.
No one is going to listen to his podcast.
The architect of the Faux News lynching in 2016 debate is now thrown to the curb.
Whoever it is that makes those gifs of Trump hitting a golf ball and clocking The Idiot Of The Moment has to to be working overtime.
To cite Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Wallace can go take a flying **** at a rolling donut.
So in other words they’re not renewing him...
With TRUMP back in the Oval Office and OBAMA now a nothing burger, CHRIS WALLACE’S ‘thrill up the leg’ is gone.
RE: “comes as other anchors face being fired or having salaries cut as declining ratings and cord-cutting hit the industry’s bottom line.”
Sounds exciting. Imagine MSNBC and CNN ones hoping the soup line downtown won’t be too long. Wearing sensible shoes and hoping 5,000 watt am stations in Iowa and Kansas still have the overnight DJ jobs open.
Good news. Good luck Crissy, you’re gonna need it.
