A former Israel Defense Force officer just became the first Republican elected to a state assembly seat in northern Hempstead, LI, in more than 50 years.

Daniel Norber, a 45-year-old dual US-Israeli citizen, will occupy the Nassau County seat bordering Queens that was once represented by Democratic state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.

Norber got a big assist from President-elect Donald Trump at the top of the ticket. Trump carried the 16th Assembly District by more than 2,000 votes over Vice President Kamala Harris.

Except the dual-citizen part. Dual citizenship should never have been allowed under US law (most countries don't grant it), and it should definitely be prohibited for a US congressman!

Not a US Congress seat. New York State Assembly.

But yes, dual citizenship should be prohibited for federal office holders. The whole dual citizenship status was imposed by the US Supreme Court in the ‘60s.

I don’t think the USA acknowledges dual-citizenship. THe USA looks at Mr. Norber as an American citizen.

Good, but the “Dual Citizenship” is BS.
If he is running for office HERE, he needs to rescind his citizenship THERE!
No divided loyalties.
And for the record, I do not care one whit “Where” the second citizenship may be.

So you are alright with Ilhan Omar who is a citizen of only the United States but has demonstrated complete loyalty to Somalia?

That ship has sailed. Most countries nowadays permit dual citizenship. There are millions of American citizens who hold citizenship with other countries for a variety of good reasons that do not in any way dilute their loyalty as Americans.

For example, by reason of my Irish born grandparents, a cousin in California acquired Irish citizenship in order to pursue her professional dreams. Irish citizenship gave her the right to move to France, where she learned French and attended and graduated from the world's leading school for commercial kitchen design. She now works in that field around the world at an extraordinary salary on contract for a leading Swiss hotel chain.

Similarly, my brother is married to an immigrant from Brazil who worked hard to earn American citizenship and become a lawyer. She is productive and well paid as a lawyer and hates the socialism and corruption that has ruined Brazil. With American and continuing Brazilian citizenship, my sister in law voted not just for Trump but also for Bolsinaro.

So, where does American law draw the line? One cannot actively hold American citizenship and also hold foreign citizenship and foreign office or employment that is in conflict with the loyalty due to America as a citizen. Formal guidance is available in close cases.

“The Jews will fight against you and you will gain victory over them until the stone would say: Muslim, here is a Jew behind me; kill him.”

Are you muslim? You seem to hallucinate a Jew behind every rock...
