Donald Trump’s remarkable election victory has been rightly attributed to the long shadow of inflation combined with mass illegal immigration across the southern border. While these factors dominated the national swing, an under-discussed element of the Republican campaign was the relentless targeting of voters in swing states with paid advertising linking Kamala Harris to radical trans ideology. Why was this – and what lessons should be drawn for Labour in the UK?
The ads were simple. Their tagline: ‘Kamala Harris is for they/them. President Trump is for you.’ They showed clips of her, from 2019, pledging her support for sex-change operations for prisoners. Others referenced Democrats supporting the right of trans-identifying males to play in women’s sport.
It’s been reported that the Republicans spent at least $17 million (£13 million) on these ads – some estimates say much more – which aired over 30,000 times, including in swing states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Nevada. Analysis by Future Forward suggested that one such ad shifted voters 2.7 percentage points towards Trump.
Polling has indicated that almost 70 per cent of Americans think transgender athletes should only be able to play in competitive leagues that match their sex at birth. The Republican Party was simply more in touch with public sentiment than the Democrats on this issue.
The ads captured the core Republican campaign message that a Harris presidency would be dominated by activists pushing identity politics, with no regard for the concerns of working American people. This narrative fed into the broader Republican critique that Democrats’ priorities involve promoting activist causes such as defunding the police, denigrating American history, and promoting radical trans ideology and critical race theory in schools.

This ad may well have been the most effective ad since the notorious LBJ “daisy ad” accusing Goldwater of wanting nuclear war.
The transgender issue is death for Democrats—they can’t get rid of their billionaire freak donors and the transgender cancel and dox crowd. They are stuck with them.
If we cram this issue down the Democrats throats we can win for decades, maybe even generations.

More and more Americans are becoming aware of the Mengele-style mutilations being carried out on preteens. All this is based on another phony psychiatric condition popularly called “Gender Dysporia.” Like all psychiatric conditions this one is invented by a vote of psychiatrists. There are no standard medical tests for any psychiatric condition. BTW my favorite “mental illness” is “disagreeing with the psychiatrist’s diagnosis”. Some other gems are “Can’t to math” and “drinks too much coffee.” These are actually listed in the DSM-IV. Another bogus invention of the shrinks.
Why would they allow a mixed up 16 year-old girl who listens to Taylor Swift, who dots her "i" with a little heart, why do they allow her to have a double mastectomy?
I studied psychology in university. The DSM came up in our studies. It’s a manual for psychiatrists. Psychiatrists have earned a medical degree and can prescribe drugs. Psychologists don’t. They rely on non medical therapies like talking cures. I never followed through and became a psychologist after graduating because my assessment was one might do better sitting down with a good clergyman to chat about problems and pray over them than see a psychologist or psychiatrist. Certainly a cheaper option to boot and like you say a much safer one.
Labour has an advantage. The right is divided between Tory loyalists and Reform defectors.
Farage has also alienated a great many Tommy Robinson supporters by throwing him under the bus and calling him a far right thug in order to appease his ‘respectable’ supporters (he may be a Trump fan, but he lacks much of Trump’s moral courage and his DGAF attitude about his detractors.
This has certainly turned off many who are now supporting Nigel’s old party UKIP, which is a total waste of time nowadays.
Labour has its dissident offshoots, but they are a joke compared to Reform.
On the other hand, even influential veteran leftists like JK Rowling are getting infuriated by the embrace of the trans cult and many have spoken sympathetically about Trump winning the election this time around when previously they viewed him as the Devil Incarnate.
Labour has already lost a lot of support and will become more and more popularity as they inevitably make a pig’s breakfast of everything.
At this stage I’m predicting that we are on a trajectory for a Tory minority government with a ReformUK confidence and supply arrangement (i.e. no formal coalition, but they will agree to pass a budget and maintain the ‘confidence of the House’ in the Tory leader as PM) in return for concessions, likely on leaving the ECHR and distancing Britain further from the EU in favour of the Commonwealth and the rest of the world.
Because they are the visions frauds and monsters they appear to be.

Psychiatry is at its root a profession that supports the cultural status quo = the cultural values of ruling elites—whatever that might be at the moment.
Thomas Szasz wrote about this at length in his many books. The most famous one:
https://www.amazon.com/Myth-Mental-Illness-Foundations-Personal/dp/0061771228
They rely on a confusion between physical brain damage which is a medical condition and “bad thoughts” which are always defined in a cultural context and have no objective meaning at all.
