Los Angeles Votes to Raise Sales Tax to Fund Homeless Services
Breitbart ^ | 11/10/2024 | Joel B Pollack

Los Angeles County voters have chosen to pass Measure A, which will raise sales taxes by a quarter of a percent to fund homeless services.

The referendum, which seemed in doubt until recently, passed with 57% support.

CalMatters.org reported (original emphasis):

Measure A, which is leading in the ballots counted thus far, would end the county’s existing quarter-cent sales tax for homelessness that was scheduled to expire in 2027 and replace it with a half-cent tax that would begin immediately and continue in perpetuity. That new tax is expected to raise $1 billion a year, and since it has no sunset, that’s $1 billion a year forever — or at least until voters revoke it.

95% to be pocketed by “administrators.” Balance to be wasted. Homeless will remain but everyone will feel good.

"They are going to run out of people with money."

Yup. Very close to a Margaret Thatcher phrase, "The problem with socialism is it eventually runs out of other people's money."

The way it is written, math-ignorant and gullible people will be fooled by it. They say “half a cent per dollar” but it is really 0.5%. So a Hispanic family saving money to buy a $30,000 used SUV for their large family will now have to pay an extra $150 for this insanity. Not insignificant for them.

The problem only got worse after the first time they increased the sales tax, so now they are literally doubling down. You can’t fix stupid.

The money they had they used on the invaders, what dopes! and greasey gruesome is going to defy trump to protect his agenda of destruction. Just ask NY mayor deblasio’s black radical lesbian wife about the mental health initiative she led where 850 million dollars disappeared and she had no Idea where it went and no one dared to check her finances. These people need the gallows this is tax payer theft of the highest order

This will go to increase the present size of the bureaucracy and more taxes will be needed in the future to continue growing that bureaucracy.

Fixing the homeless problem in LA and California could have been done at any time over the last half century, a tax increase in the year 2024 isn’t going to change anything.

Thousands of illegals and welfare parasites who do not work for their government handouts and who live by sucking on the public tear vote to raise sales tax.

The more money the government gets the bigger the share that politicians and bureaucrats can scam.

And it’s in perpetuity which is a good thing as LA Unified is turning out what will just be more future homeless year after year in perpetuity.

There are several huge shopping malls in New Hampshire (no sales tax) that are *just* over the Massachusetts (huge sales tax) line.In fact the parking lot of one of them is literally in Massachusetts while all the stores are in New Hampshire.

IIRC Orange County is just a short drive from LA County. I guess stores there can look forward to more sales.

Having lived in Silicon Valley for 36 years, I don’t recall any bond or tax increase measure that the citizens there voted down. And they wonder why their property and sales taxes are high there. SMH.
