Reclusive billionaire heir Timothy Melon gave $125 million to help elect Trump, even more than Elon Musk donated

One of the largest donors to help President-elect Donald Trump was Timothy Mellon, an heir to the generational fortune of Gilded Age tycoon Andrew Mellon.

In the 2024 election cycle, Mellon, 82, donated $125 million to the super PAC Make America Great Again, Inc. that supported Trump, according to Federal Election Commission documents.

And including, donations to help Republican congressional candidates and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Mellon donated a total of $165 million, according to the campaign finance tracker Open Secrets.

Mellon wasn’t the only billionaire to make nine-figure outlays for Trump. Tesla CEO Elon Musk gave at least $119 million to a PAC he set up to re-elect Trump. When including money for other Republicans, Musk gave at least $132 million.

But he did so in a much more public manner than Mellon, who is known to eschew the spotlight. Mellon is a grandson of Andrew Mellon and reclusive billionaire who in the past expressed pointed views about federal entitlement programs, which he termed “slavery redux.”

Mellon seldom speaks to the press and appears to have little interest in hobnobbing with the politicians to whom he donates. Even though he's dispensed huge sums of money to political groups and politicians, many have never met him. And during the 2020 election, Republican staffers had to search him on Google to find out who he was when he reached out with the offer of a major donation, according to the New York Times.

In a rare interview from 2020, Mellon told Bloomberg he believed Trump had delivered on what he’d said on the stump.

“He’s done the things he promised to, or tried to do the things he’s promised to…in trade and righting the balance between our country and the rest of the world, especially China,” Mellon said.

I like reading about this. When I was in DC two years ago, I got to see many of the lovely art works Andrew Mellon donated to the National Gallery to help make it what it is now.

First, Mellon is not reclusive. He’s the heir to the Mellon family fortune and the family and their politics have been well known for over 100 years. Second, if there is a story to be told about shadowy billioniares donating to a campaign, its how a bunch of liberal billionaires gave dark money to the Harris campaign and fund other radical liberal causes like tryign to disbard attorneys who work for election integrity.

My take is that Biden was so freakin awful, that this scared the ultra wealthy into supporting Trump, with millions in campaign donations this time around.

Biden open borders are clear sabotage of the United States. This got millions of moderates voting for Trump. Who will start building border walls ASAP. Just so long as Republicans win a House majority.

Unlike in 2016 when Paul Ryen sabotaged border walls. I despise Ryan and curse him. Ryan can go to hell! He is a relic who will have zero influence the next 4 years.

As an interesting historical coincidence, Mellon’s great grandfather - Republican Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon - was politically persecuted by FDR in the 1930s including putting him on trial for tax fraud. Maybe Tim felt some sympathy for Trump due to that.

Exactly!

‘Open borders’ is a very effective way to invalidate US citizenship

Also, if smuggling these illegals into the US was an industry, deporting them can also be an industry. All the necessary and extensive logistics to accomplish that will require employees.... yes, JOBS!

I found this interesting:

“In 2010, Mellon donated $1.5 million to Arizona’s defense fund to help cover the costs of legal challenges against Arizona SB 1070,[22] the broadest and strictest anti-illegal immigration measure in the U.S. at the time of its passage.[23][1] It received national and international attention and spurred considerable controversy.[24][25]”

He helped fund the legal challenges against a strong anti-illegal immigration policy????? Is Trump aware of that. The guy sounds like an uber-uber Libertarian.

Mellon, 82, donated $125 million to the super PAC

That's all fine and well, but can he do a Triple Lindy?

Musk spent FORTY BILLION DOLLARS taking over one of the most damaging sites to us and turned into a HUGE place for right wing folks to freely say whatever they want.

that’s a little more than 125 million.
