The dust is settling on the 2024 election after President-elect Trump’s unexpectedly comfortable victory.
Now both parties are looking to the exit polls for lessons as to how Trump won, why Vice President Harris lost — and how the trends might affect future elections.
There are some important caveats, including that some exit polls are still being updated by fresh data even days after the election.
Also, there are two major surveys.
One is an exit poll conducted by Edison Research for a media consortium comprised of ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN. Another is a voter analysis for the Associated Press and Fox News, conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago.
The two methods usually produce broadly similar results — but not always.
In any event, here are five major takeaways from the exit polls.

Latino men moved toward Trump in a big way
The abortion rights wave never materialized for Harris
The young vote shifted several notches to the right
A mixed picture on the Black male vote
Jewish voters stuck with Democrats A mixed picture on the Black male vote
If Liz Cheney was trying to hurt Trump with her endorsement, it backfired bigly.
I believe it reduced Democratic enthusiasm for Kamala, especially with Arab Americans. And it sure didn’t get any Republicans to cross over.
>> The young vote shifted several notches to the right
That’s YUGE. “The young vote” is our future.
The Latino male shift is second-yugest.
>> Jewish voters stuck with Democrats
Masochistic fools, but only a tiny % of the electorate.
There was no “message to get across” from Kamala Harris.
Because she had no message - she was nothing but empty words - no policies, dodged and avoided important questions - and all she could do at the end was denigrate and bash Trump - which didn’t help her cause (well, there was no cause!).
Good news is she is now such a loser that the Democrats will toss her under the bus so we won’t have to listen to her cackling any longer.
She will be ancient news by Monday.
“She will be ancient news by Monday”
She still has a chance to become President for the next two months or so. You might pray for Joe’s continued health.
I think the Democrats saw so many Republicans voting for Harriz and Walzy that they thought it was some kind of a trap. So, they voted for Trump instead.
How many times did we hear that no pollster ever underestimated a presidential candidate three times in a row? That the polls definitely had corrected themselves for 2024? I guess pollsters having no idea what they are doing is another takeaway from this election.
On the other hand, getting Tulsi and RFK Jr on Trump’s side was Yuge!
“ Masochistic fools, but only a tiny % of the electorate.”
If they moved to Trump in NYC, Trump would have won the state.
The reality is the tent this year with Trump became a lot bigger. Heck, Scott Presler, who is a conservative activist *and* gay, almost single-handedly delivered the Amish vote in PA.
The one group that resisted the move to Trump seen in all other groups (Latinos, young men, black men, women) is the Jews. They stuck with the Dems. This makes sense since they are the most progressive, the most urban, the most educated, and among the oldest cohorts in the population, all of which are attributes that keep them in the Democrat fold.
They moved very slightly. On the other hand blacks and Latinos moved bigly towards Trump in NYC.
The first thing to take away from exit polls is that nobody with a brain should pay attention to them — or ANY polls published by the media, for that matter.
All the old barren wine box cat ladies who aborted their kids are dying off. And guess who helped win the election for Trump? Young MEN who weren't ABORTED!
So Ladies:
Rage, rage, against the dying of the light
Scream, cry, but it won't help your plight
Men helped Trump so cry and take your lumps
They'll help Vance in 2028 and you'll still be chumps
I think Trump lost a little of the Jewish vote that might have gone to him, with his statement that Jewish voters were wrong to vote for Harris.
In the Jewish community it was received by some as like Biden saying blacks should not vote for Trump.
Considering how flaccid the Democrats' response was to the campus anti-Semitism that was allowed to occur I truly don't understand this AT ALL.
Everything was lost in the noise of “Nazi, fascist, garbage” which alienated everyone. The other bad strategy was to gaslight everyone who was struggling financially by telling them it wasn’t happening. Harris’s inability to handle questions reminded me of Hillary’s health issues. It made her appear to be an idiot.
My biggest fear was that women were going to surprise everyone and turn out huge for Harris.
Me too. Abortion failed
