A Decision Desk update on Arizona
AP ^ | November 7, 2024 | THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Another day of vote counting in Arizona has added tens of thousands of votes to the tally, but there remain hundreds of thousands of ballots left to count — including nearly half a million in Maricopa County. Officials there are still working their way through advance votes that arrived in October. The races for president and U.S. Senate will remain too early to call for at least another day.

2024 ARIZ. GENERAL PRESIDENT

76% of votes counted

CANDIDATE VOTES PCT.

Donald Trump GOP 1,385,868 52.5%

Kamala Harris DEM 1,230,651 46.6%

Chase Oliver LIB 12,316 0.5%

Jill Stein GRN 12,198 0.5%

Is there a nefarious reason why it takes so long?

The rest of the world is laughing at us. How a supposed superpower with massive wealth cannot complete voting lik every other country does in a day is a total sick sad joke

I have often wondered why it is ,that decades ago, when many places still used paper ballots., results were announced very quickly.

But with electronic voting machines, it takes days and even weeks to count all the ballots. Shouldn’t modern technology allow for results to be reported more quickly than back in the old days of paper ballots?

Florida finished with their millions and millions of votes by like 10 o’clock Eastern standard time two days ago

Arizona is an absolute unmitigated mess. But I believe that there is a new guy taking over Maricopa. That’s going to fix this crap

“ Is there a nefarious reason why it takes so long?”

I would assume so and that it relates to the Senate race.

Florida had 90% of the votes counted one hour after the polls closed and 95% within 3 hrs.

Must be a racist math problem thing in Arizona.

“Provisional ballots” are the chokepoint with close elections.

The voter information on the cover envelope of the ballot must be verified and cross checked against poll books to make certain that there has been no attempt at voting twice before that ballot may be scanned and counted.

Not a fast process but ESSENTIAL for election integrity!

Lake was down 59K at the start of today

...now down to 41K at 9pm . ballots are reportedly heavily from red districts as this latest dump confirms.

...with a few hundred thousand votes to go. She may pull this off.

It’s a 4 page ballot, with some odd restrictions...very slow

There's a good reason...they don't want Kari Lake to win.

We need chimps to count these votes.

They could definitely do a better job than Arizona officials.

Yes it is. However, the fact remains that states control the election process. Most well-run states do get their results the evening of or the morning after the election. The citizens of Arizona and other states that claim it takes days to count the vote need to insist that their state’s election laws be changed so that votes are counted accurately and quickly.

(I am aware that some states are politically dominated by a party that wants/needs to have the process be as slow as possible for nefarious reasons).
