Michael Jordan Breaks Silence on Alleged Donald Trump Endorsement: The Truth Behind the Viral Post

A social media post claimed that the former Bulls star had given his support to the Republican candidate.

Throughout his career, Michael Jordan has endorsed everything from cereal to luxury watches, not to mention, of course, his line of athletic shoes. However, the NBA legend recently had to clarify his stance on the impending presidential election.

A day before people headed to the polls to cast their votes in one of the closest elections in decades, a post featuring Jordan began to go viral on social media.

The message claimed that the former player had become "the latest to endorse Donald Trump for president." The message was accompanied by a photo of a younger Jordan, but nothing else.

Netizens were quick to add context to the post on X (formerly Twitter), clarifying that Jordan had never endorsed any candidate in his career and had not done so this time either. Still, representatives for the player were quick to deny the alleged endorsement.

Jordan's clarification

In statements to The Independent, representatives of the former player flatly denied the assertions in the post. "There is absolutely no truth to the claim that Michael Jordan has made an endorsement in the presidential election," the statement said.

Jordan has always been very discreet about his political preferences. In this election, he has been careful not to speak for or against Trump or Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

In a statement in his documentary "The Last Dance," Jordan said, "I never thought of myself as an activist. I thought of myself as a basketball player. I wasn't a politician when I was playing my sport."

He admitted his admiration for the late boxer Muhammad Ali for his civil rights advocacy but explained that he preferred to focus exclusively on his career. "Was that selfish? Probably. But that was my energy. That's where my energy was," he said.

Jordan's fake post began circulating a few hours after Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron Jamespublicly endorsed Harris. "What are we even talking about here?? When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!," James wrote on X.

Although it is impossible to prove it, some analysts believe that Jordan's fake post could have been a countermeasure to James' authentic endorsement. With the elections already underway and with polls so close, every vote counts, or at least that is what whoever crafted that fake post could have thought.

I can see Michael Jordan voting for Trump. But he’ll do it in secret.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James publicly endorsed Harris. "What are we even talking about here?? When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!," James wrote on X.

Typical clueless liberal Democrat: "What are we even talking about here??"

There's the double question mark, meaning, I have no clue what we're talking about. Then clueless LeBron desperately screams in ALL CAPS (with 3 exclamation points): "VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!" (Total Desperation)

LeBron concludes the "choice" is clear to him. Which means absolutely nothing. (Notice that clueless LeBron gives zero reasons for voting for kommieLa & Tampon Tim. Moron.) I too could tell the whole world that the "choice" is absolutely clear to me. Nobody should care who anyone else is voting for. Vote for whoever you want, regardless of who Hollyweird actors, professional athletes, or even Barry Soetoro tells you to vote for.

Based on what? I don't remember Jordan ever revealing any deep political feelings.

Of course, some could read, "Republicans buy sneakers too," as meaning he would otherwise endorse a Democrat, if it didn't effect his business interests.

But I tend to think Jordan doesn't have any real political beliefs. I'm no expert on him.

He likes gambling, competition, and probably adultery.

THIS IS THE STORY OF THE ELECTION!

LeBron James (pretending to be the GOAT): "VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!"

Michael Jordan (actual GOAT): I have no comment on the election.

Former Democrat Presidents Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter & Barry Soetoro: We're voting for Kamala Harris for pResident (and you should too)!

Former Republican Vice President (effectively President) Dick Cheney: Donald Trump will destroy American democracy, will take away all your freedoms and is a fascist who will be a dictator on Day One!

Former Republican pResident (effectively Vice pResident) George W. Bush: I have no comment on the election. Former President Dick Cheney will speak on my behalf because I'm totally incapable of publicly defending my reason for voting for Kamala Harris.

He likes gambling, competition, and probably adultery.

Can't see him being "woke". I can see him filling out a ballot in the mail. If I had to bet, I'll say he'll vote for Trump.

Imagine Michael Jordan voting for Harris.

But you may be right. It's possible that he's completely apolitical.

Sports people are in the entertainment business. Mouthing political opinions only hurts their brand because no matter what they say they alienate a substantial number of customers. Where are the Dixie Chicks? Gone virtually overnight.

The Dixie Chicks may not be on what passes for “country music” stations these days, but they’ve done quite well for themselves over the years. Each of them have a net worth of more than $50 million, and it’s growing.
