Follow the money. That's the maim reason. But if you think about it, should the election go ill (which he knows it will) the dems will be leaderless with no future at all. He gets it.
He represents the DINO faction of the DNC. He has always been fundamentally transactional and in the vacuum of a party bereft of policy and ideas he can represent some path back to a semblance reason.
He nor Hill will run for office again, they seek the levers of power that Obama took from them.
