Bob Casey Plays the Trump Card
Wall Street Journal ^ | Oct. 28, 2024 | William McGurn

Posted on 10/29/2024 6:29:08 AM PDT by SharpRightTurn

A week from the election, we have bipartisan consensus on two points regarding Pennsylvania. The first is that the presidential contest is way too close to call. The second is that only one contender has coattails. Both candidates for Senate—Republican challenger Dave McCormick and Democratic incumbent Bob Casey—agree on who that is: Donald Trump. That Mr. McCormick would hitch his wagon to Mr. Trump is no surprise. But Mr. Casey is also wrapping his arms around the former president as a means of boosting his credibility. He’s doing this even as Kamala Harris is denouncing Mr. Trump as a “fascist” and Hillary Clinton is likening his Sunday rally at Madison Square Garden to a 1939 gathering sponsored by the pro-Nazi German American Bund. Nor is Mr. Casey the only Democrat running for Senate who’s decided that the winning strategy is to distance himself from Ms. Harris and embrace his inner Trump. Wisconsin’s Tammy Baldwin and Michigan’s Elissa Slotkin are among those who have made similar moves. In a post on Truth Social, the former president accepted the “great compliment” but called their alleged support fake: “Kamala Harris’ sinking Campaign has become so TOXIC, that Democrat Senators in four different States are using me in their advertisements, and stating that they are with President Trump on Tariffs, and numerous other things. While it is a great compliment, it is not fair to those Republican Senate Candidates, Bernie Moreno, Dave McCormick, Eric Hovde, and Sam Brown, who are with me all the time. These Democrats have voted with Crooked Joe Biden almost 100% of the time. They only pretend to be on my side when Elections roll around.”

Absolutely. Your clear indicator that PA is going Trump. The Wall can whistle past the graveyard all they want.

If Trump can win PA I believe that will take it, amazing how PA has the weight of the globe on their shoulders, I hope they do the right thing.

Yep, This break actually happened a few weeks back.. Casey started touting things he claims he’s done that Trump supported.

Casey has always been a weak candidate, but Republicans have never taken the field against him in any previous election campaign. Winning statewide as a republican is an uphill battle in this state, but its even harder when the state GOP keeps wanting candidates who are 20 years out of date, using a playbook equally as outdated.

McCormick is running a solid campaign, but he is definitely a republican that is more of the BUsh/Country Club variety... Without Trump on the ticket McCormick would likely come up about 2-3 short, with this being a Presidential year, and Trump on the ballot I expect Trump as long as he wins PA by 3 or more, will drag McCormick over the finish line.

Now, if Trump outperforms McCormick which I believe without question he will, in PA... then it is beyond time that the current statewide GOP leadership be absolutely crap canned. They still feel they need these Bush/RINO type republicans to win statewide. And if indeed Trump outperforms McCormick like I expect he will, this argument should now be DOA... and the leadrship pushing it needs to be removed.

"presidential contest is way too close to call."

If saying that makes you feel better, have at it.

If the PA and WI presidential races are really too close to call, why hitch to Trump?

Trump should win PA comfortably, though malfeasance is always a risk after what was allowed to happen in 2020 and nothing was done about it.

However, I believe that any malfeasance in this election will largely be centered around the congressional races, which are much easier to rig, and with 3 cases already found of mass fraudlent registrations so far this cycle, 2 of them in PA... I think that the dems are just going to fraud their way to house majority under the radar, and concede the White House and Senate.

Every D Senator across the rust belt has hitched themselves to Trump, the ones that did it early are doing the best in their polling, they all know Harris has lost here.

If Harris even takes 1 of the Rust Belt states I’ll personally be surprised.

“Your clear indicator that PA is going Trump. The Wall can whistle past the graveyard all they want.”

RealClearPolitics has Trump up in PA in its average of polls by 0.4% and Casey up 1.2%.

But some of the polls that make up those averages may well be questionable. I think you (and the article’s author) are right that Casey and other Dim candidates would not be embracing Trump if they weren’t fighting for their political lives and see Trump as their life raft.

As Dims, they may not be too smart but are savvy enough to see which way the wind is blowing.

Interesting musings.

I think you have nailed it here.

The absolute destruction of Kathy Barnette in 2022 told you everything you need to know about the PA GOP.

They went after her harder than they have ever gone after any Democrat in my nearly 40 years of living here once she started to be a real threat to win the Senate primaries.

They absolutely destroyed her, so they could put up Oz or McCormick their preferred folks, only to watch Oz go down in absolute flames after blowing more than 100M trying to slather lipstick on that pig.

The PA GOP and Harrisburg as as corrupt as much of a swamp as anything going on in DC.

the Democrat MI Senate candidate said weeks ago, that her internal polling showed Harris losing MI... if she’s losing MI, she’s losing WI and PA by even bigger margins.

Good analysis—agreed.

Fraud in the Congressional races makes more sense—and could have a serious effect since there are many very close races around the country.

Here in CT they use last minute urban precinct voting to keep any close congressional races out of reach.

The Republican Party here plays checkers while the Democrat Party hoodlums play chess with guns.
