Breaking from tradition, the populist Freedom Party will not be given a chance to form a government despite winning last month’s elections.
Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen announced Tuesday that incumbent Chancellor Karl Nehammer would be granted the chance to form a new government, despite his centre-right Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) coming in second place at 26 per cent of the vote behind the Freedom Party of Austria’s (FPÖ) 29 per cent.
The 80-year-old president argued that even though tradition dictates that the winner be given the first crack at forming a coalition because the other parties have ruled out working with the anti-mass migration populist party, the only option would be to provide Nehammer an opportunity to band together with left-wing parties to form a government.

Nothing is ever settled until it is settled the way the Left wants it settled.
I always have trouble understanding these other forms of government. But it sounds like the winner is not really the winner in Australia.
Van Der Bellen is not Austrian, rather a “Dutch descended” Green Party Communist from Russia and Estonia.
His opposition to actually letting the winners of an election do what they were elected to do is the fact that they are an anti-mass immigration party, and of course...he’s an immigrant.
So much for “democracy” at the hands of foreigners.
And Hitler wasn’t German.
These people can’t leave well enough alone. They will push until it breaks. Which is why many times, historically, they end up hanging from lampposts.
Proves my point!
But Branau is only a few hundred meters away from his beloved Deutschland, and of course was part of Bavaria when founded. So you know...he felt German. And feelings are the only things that count, right?
As for Herr President Van Der Watermelon, I can say that my step-Großmutter was Estonian and a real refugee. And she was no Communist. Far from it...that’s who she ran from in ‘45.
I am going to tell this to my wife and have her call her family in Austria to see how they like this, PS They asked for and I sent them the Good Trump Hats a couple years ago..
That’s right. They follow law and precedent only if they win. Those filthy populists MUST NOT get their hands on the levers, so to hell with civilized process.
Coming here next year after Trimpa wins. It’s the RATs who will refuse to turn over power. They are setting it up now.
Or a better way to put it is that Austria has gone full “European”.
The “winner” was unable to form a government, as all the other parties, who control 70% of the seats, refused to join them in a majority coalition. 29% isn’t “winning”.
The same thing happened in France, but to the far left “New Popular Front” party. They won the most seats, but no other party would join them, so a center-right coalition was formed.
Parliamentary governments can be a mess.
1. Nobody won a majority; not the “populists” nor anyone else.
2. Giving the “populist” party a chance at making a majority coalition with other parties would be a waste of time and not lead to the formation of a government. Nothing can compel other paries to join a coaltion with the “populist” party, and they (the other parties) have said they would not coalition with the “populists” and without such a coalition with the “populists” the populists could not form a government.
Just facts. Not a “conspiracy”.
“Austria has gone full stupid”

Like Germany, Austria practices “protective democracy.” They’ve seen this movie before.
The establishment EVERYWHERE is engaged in a revolt against the people. Maybe the French a couple hundred years ago weren’t so wrong.
