A deaf Black man with cerebral palsy was allegedly beaten and tased by Phoenix police officers this summer, in a violent incident that has gained national attention following the release of police body camera footage.
In the recently publicized bodycam footage, Tyron McAlpin, 34, can be seen walking through a parking lot in Phoenix, on Aug. 19, when he is approached by two officers in separate police vehicles. The footage was provided to NPR by the McAlpin's attorney.
Within seconds of first addressing McAlpin, who is deaf, officer Benjamin Harris jumps out of his vehicle and begins punching McAlpin, followed closely behind by officer Kyle Sue, who presses McAlpin into the ground and repeatedly punches him as well, the footage shows.

Police confront white man, who says, no sir, that black man assaulted me.
Police roll up on black man, jump out, and start punching and tasing him. Punching him on the ground.
One cop later checks store footage. White man acting bizarrely, black man, no issue.
Black man still charged with resisting arrest, assault on officers. He didn't hold still while being beaten and tasted.
Video footage at link below, first one fuzzy security cam, third one body cam with visual, second one not much good.

Good grief, the cops didn’t go so far as to taste that poor man.
Auto correct. This time it gives me take. It does not like TASE.
Why is color important? What if all the participants in this drama were white? Would they all be identified as white in the story? Such bullshit.
Cops are not audiologists.
They respond and react to behaviors.
In this case, non-compliance.
So how could they have known that this “suspect” was deaf?
Deaf people should be afraid to be alone in public in case an officer barks an order they don't hear? Rethink your thesis.
This man was a threat to no one and had done nothing. He was on the phone (FaceTime) with a lady who communicates with him by sign language. The officer jumped him without warning for simply seeming to ignore him for all of two seconds when he pulled up. The lady from the phone showed up soon after and told the police he was deaf, has cerebral palsy, and was on the phone with her throughout so she knows he did nothing wrong. They didn't just discount what she said, they ridiculed her and continued brutalizing this man.
After confirming his innocence, they continue to prosecute the man for "resisting" when his only resistance was likely done with his face to their knuckles. One cop may have broken a knuckle and another thought he'd been bitten--but he likely just hurt his hand on the man's teeth.
Bootlickers in 3,2,1…..
Back the blue until it happens to you.
It shouldn’t.
But it’s America and you have had DECADES of identity politics.
A good part of the American population is incapable of going one day without mentioning the term racism several times, or a mere two days without calling someone a racist.
People have been TAUGHT to see color, and ironically many of them are the ones that talk about racism non stop and call everyone they disagree with a racist.
I read ONLY the posted excerpt...didn’t want to give NPR the benefit of a click.
Law enforcement has already done incredible damage to itself.
PR disasters.
And worst of all, they are legit gripes.
And the vast majority of them are lefties.
Did you watch the video? He didn’t have any time to comply.
Remember the deaf Indian woodcarver in Portland with his knife and a small log?
Does every drunk, drugged, mentally disabled, wandering Alzeheimers patient, diabetic emergency patient, stroke victim, head injury victim, hypothermia sufferer get clobbered because they’re too confused too comply? The blind who can’t see the uniform?
Oh they’re not doctors, they’re cops. Cops go as first responders to a lot of medical emergencies. They need to recognize medical conditions and handicaps to a degree.
Watch the video. There’s no time to comply.
BLM will be called into street action one more time before Nov. 7
Normally, I would say color isn’t important. This time it almost certainly is.
They took the word of an identified troublemaker and attacked a bystander.
Do you think they would have done that if thecolors were switched?
While most cops are probably ok, some need to find another line of work.
“Allegedly”. If they ACTUALLY beat a white boy with these problems, it wouldn’t have made the news.
Cops are agents of government and like teachers should not be put on a pedestal. There is an endless supply of videos on YouTube of cops disgracing themselves and their profession brazenly violating people’s rights and they do it with ease and without fear.
A cop is like a box of chocolates.
It will kill your dog.
I watched the video. The cops did nothing wrong. Move on to the next fake outrage.
Agreed. Just because police officers enforce the law doesn’t mean they’re above the law.
