Nearly every single bridge in New York needs repairs — and many of them are ‘structurally deficient’: report

That’s a lot of bridges over troubled waters.

The Empire State ranks 11th in the nation for dilapidated bridges, as nearly every single span in the state — 99.46% — is in need of some kind of repair, a report said.

And nearly 10 percent of New York State’s 17,642 bridges were so bad they classified as “structurally deficient,” according to a 2024 report from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association.

The 10 worst are all in New York City. The bridge hall of shame included parts of I-95 and the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx — and most notoriously, the infamous, elevated stretch of the BQE at the Brooklyn Promenade.

I was talking with my wife about this topic as we drove from western MA to Boston for a wedding a couple of weeks ago.

The eastern MA bridges looked good but the steel beneath the bridges in Western MA were all rusted out and in terrible shape.

It is not very difficult to inspect this stuff.

:-)

It takes 5 to 10 years in NY to do road work that takes part of a summer in NH.

Trump’s fault. Also the Republicans in NY. Right?

If bridges could vote for Democrats, they might get some attention.

Nobody knows the name of the road extending eastward from the George Washington Bridge for .81 miles across the island of Manhattan.

Well...This Guy knows.

But nobody else does.

Change This Guy’s mind.

So scary will it take death to get these incompetent officials moving. Individuals can’t order bridge repairs

Approx. 85% of the present NY subway system was built and constructed before it was taken over by NYC government in the late 1940s.

Government builds and creates almost nothing.

It’s called the Trans-Manhattan Expressway.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I’m a civil engineer by trade and I worked on projects all over the NYC metro area in a prior life. :-)

When the money gets sucked off by graft there is none left for the intended purposes of government.

Mind changed!

Is that not the most useless piece of trivia? (Not that your work was in any way trivial.)

The name of the road is never uttered by traffic reporters.

All they ever say is, “under the apartments”.

Most people just think it’s part of the Cross-Bronx Expressway.

The first traffic reporter that ever calls it by it’s actual name during a radio or television broadcast will surely be fired.

So, it looks like Biden’s trillion dollar infrastructure bill, just like Obama’s, did nothing for infrastructure. both just funded graft, pork and the groups who are currently funding Harris’ campaign and the court cases and election fraud to go along with it. .

Liberals do everything bad, on purpose.

You don’t want to live in a liberal area, because you will surely be made to suffer.

OOPS, they just spelled it wrong, it was the Inflation bill, as in MORE.
