Polish democracy champion and former President Lech Walesa says a victory by Republican Donald Trump in this year's U.S. presidential election would bring “misfortune” to the world.
Walesa said in a short entry on Facebook on Sunday that he does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, but that the matter “is too important for the world” for him to withhold his views.
“I deeply believe that Americans will vote responsibly. In my opinion, I am completely convinced that Trump’s election WOULD BE A MISFORTUNE FOR THE U.S. AND THE WORLD,” he wrote, using all capital letters.
He did not explain his thinking further.

Walesa, 81, played a historic role as leader of Solidarity, a labor union that advocated for workers’ rights and greater freedoms during the 1980s, when Poland was still under Soviet-backed communist rule.
He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983 for his defense of workers’ rights and universal freedoms more broadly. Solidarity ended up playing a crucial role in the peaceful collapse of communism.
Walesa went on to serve one term as president of Poland.
The Poles hate the Russians with a passion and are all in favor of the war in Ukraine. I get it. That’s their national interest - not necessarily ours.
And has done nothing since. He is past his best if used by date.
It’s a shame when people who are supposed to be intelligent are brainwashed by the western “news” media and lick up every drop of the “media’s” vomit.
He is still alive?
Walesa did amazing work as leader of Solidarity. But he was president of Poland for only one term for a reason. Probably not the best guy to advise other countries on who would make a good president.
I think he’s a good example of the “Peter Principle”: Walesa rose to his level of incompetence.
Lech was one of the major players in the early fall of the domination of Eastern Europe by the Soviets. I have always respected him and his guts.
That said, he should stay retired and not worry about US politics.
“He did not explain...”
Lech played an important role with Thatcher and Reagan. Now the unexplained thoughts of Lech are leeching into our politics and Constitution. No thanks.
I’m surprised they don’t hate the Ukrainians as much considering what they did in Lvov after the war.
I thought he didn’t like commies? Wonder if he wrote it. Another stunt that smacks of desperation.
Harris laid down for hers..................
What a loser. America was great when we supported his goals. And now he can’t support us in our goals to be great again?
“Everybody wants to get into the act!” - Jimmy Durante. I thought Lech was dead. He was famous so long ago.
You've had your day in the sun!
You're done. Please move on.

LIBERAL WIFE OR KIDS????
It’s going to be a MISFORTUNE for the globalist like him. Yes indeed. The globohomo’s are going to get what they deserve.
Pain, punishment and justice is coming for the evil, depraved, unaccountable, unelected members of the Deep State and puppet masters who control the world. Die f@ckers, die!
Party is over Lech.
Time to step up and pay for NATO, and everything else
I’m sorry, but Walesa is being a short-sighted idiot who can’t see beyond his own nose in this instance. Who does he think Reagan would be supporting in this election? If it weren’t for Reagan, Walesa would very likely have ‘disappeared’ without having any long-term impact on Poland.
Stupidity is when, after fighting to free your nation from the oppression of Communism, you then turn around and support a candidate and party who believe in Marxism and who parrot Communist/Marxist talking points.
