A vehicle fleeing a Philadelphia hospital after dropping off a gunshot victim early Saturday struck three nurses who were trying to treat the patient, injuring one critically, authorities said.
The silver Jeep Cherokee had just dropped off the man in the ambulance bay at Penn Presbyterian Hospital about 4:30 a.m. Saturday when it hit the three male nurses as it fled, police said.
One 36-year-old nurse was listed in critical condition with facial injuries and internal bleeding. A 37-year-old nurse with head injuries and a 51-year-old nurse with head and back injuries were listed in stable condition, police said.
The 28-year-old shooting victim arrived with multiple gunshot wounds and may have sustained a head injury in the hit-and-run, police said.
Penn Medicine told WCAU-TV that the hit-and-run was “devastating” but staff "continued working to save the gunshot victim and care for all our other patients even as their own colleagues were suffering and being treated.”
Officials said they were providing support for the victims and their families and cooperating with police, who are investigating both the hit-and-run crash and the earlier shooting.
Philadelphia City Council member Jamie Gauthier said in a statement that staff at the area's only Level One trauma center daily “come face-to-face with gruesome pain and suffering to care for us during the most traumatic moments of our lives.”
“It is unfathomable to me that someone would drive their car into our neighbors charged with healing,” she said.

More a get-away vehicle.
I hope they prioritized the order of care. Nurse, nurse, nurse, clean up blood, break, union meeting. …
Time for Harris and Tiny Tim Tampon to ban silver Jeep Cherokees.
When they find the getaway driver, he should be treated for oxygen theft.
“When they find the getaway driver...”
Fair chance that vehicle was stolen.
I’m sure there are security cams all over outside the hospital but I give it 50/50 they never catch who is responsible.
“The silver Jeep Cherokee had just dropped off the man in the ambulance bay”
WOW! That Jeep is even more capable than Musk’s robotaxi.
If you listen to local news in urban areas, they always say “a [insert age] yr old male was shot last night on MLK Blvd. He was taken by PRIVATE VEHICLE to [insert local hospital] and is recovering; there are no suspects as of yet but anyone with any information please call 1-800-GOSNITCH.”
It’s mostly because an AM-BU-LANCE will require the Po Po to show up first which they want to avoid at all costs, so “private vehicle” it is.
You have been watching the 10pm Shreveport news. It happens exactly that way.
I didn’t know “Jeep Cherokee” was a buggy manufacturer brand. Or am I thinking of the wrong usual suspects?
I wish the story had been a little more descriptive with regard to the layout of the ambulance bay and the positioning of all involved. My guess is that this incident will be on security cameras and we’ll learn more. It seems like a fairly straightforward accident scenario. That’s not an excuse, but ....
The bad guys had a wounded companion. They wanted to get him to a hospital rather than let him bleed out. Did they call ahead and tell the ER staff that they were bringing someone in, in which case a small crowd might have been running towards the car as they pulled in (probably at excessive speed)? Did they think they’d just pull the wounded dude out of the car, dump him and take off? Did an ER staff person automatically go to direct the car pulling into the ambulance bay, see the wounded guy, and hit the Code Gangbanger button on his device? Did the driver wait for the wounded guy to be unloaded by ER staff and then take off?
The story says the wounded guy may have sustained an additional head injury in the collision that struck the nurses. Was he already out of the car being attended to when the driver decided it was time to make haste hastily and tore off through a crowd? Did the driver perhaps have to back up to get out, in which case he might have hit an emergency response team working on the victim in what they thought was a safe space clear of the car?
We can spin out the scenarios, but I’m trying to picture the scene. Bad things happen when people panic and try to drive through crowds. This was a panic reaction by the driver in a crowd. That happens with some frequency, but not usually in hospital ambulance bays (except in the movies).
Philadelphia will never clean itself up.....criminals run it top to bottom.
The wounded guy will probably sue the nurse for causing his head injury. He might even win.
“It is unfathomable to me that someone would drive their car into our neighbors charged with healing,”
The thing I find most surprising is that the wounded guy was even taken to the hospital. Anyone who thinks that shooting and killing people for perceived insults probably would not care much about getting their co-gansta to the hospital. It be like, bro you is dyin’ anyways. I suspect the injured individual had a gun pointed at the driver to make sure he cared enough.
was it them boo boo?
No description given means we all know what they looked like.
