Opinion: Has Jack Smith botched the Trump indictments?
The Hill ^ | Oct 7, 2024 | James D. Zirin

The legal system has utterly failed to disqualify former President Trump from office. Whether he becomes the next president is now anybody’s guess.

Much of the fault may be laid at the feet of special counsel Jack Smith, who has pursued Trump with the zeal of Inspector Javert, but has thus far come up empty handed.

The open-and-shut case involving Trump’s mishandling of the classified Mar-a-Lago documents has been dismissed on unprecedented legal grounds involving Smith’s standing to prosecute him. The Washington case involving Trump’s conspiracy against democracy is back to the start, with Smith losing on immunity in the Supreme Court.

Straining to right a listing ship, Smith has filed a 165-page, procedurally irregular dump of his grand jury materials, containing evidence that Trump cannot refute. The filing obviously flouts the internal Justice Department rule that “Federal prosecutors … may never select the timing of any action, including investigative steps, criminal charges, or statements, for the purpose of affecting any election.”

So Smith has not played it by the book. Veteran prosecutor Elie Honig calls the brief “Smith’s October Cheap Shot.” It is certainly a late hit......

Then he brought the slam-dunk Mar-a-Lago documents case in Florida. He could have brought it in Washington. The jury pool in Florida would be favorable to Trump. In 2020, Trump won Florida with 51.2 percent of the vote. In Washington, he won just 5.4 percent. Was Smith nuts?

The article deserves a barf alert but it makes several valid points:

1. The left is practicing lawfare against Trump.

2. Smith's filings are intended to impact the election.

3. The deck is stacked against Trump for any DC trial.

This whole thing has never been a legit attempt at a legal transaction. It has been to dirty Trump in the eyes of the voter. And it started with the failed attempts to remove him from office with multiple censure efforts that never got past the liberal house.

This latest doc dump is gossip and hearsay, along the lines of the Hutchinson girl saying that Trump jumped the limo driver. The adolescents on the left might slaver at the possibilities, but it’s made of lint.

And the DOJ so badly messed up the Mar a Lago raid, Judge Cannon did Jack a favor by declaring him nobody.

Of the legal actions taken against Trump, a couple of working in Washington DC and NYC, they have failed in Atlanta and Miami.

Get your legal issues outside of the Swamp and a Deep Blue City and you have a chance at Justice, otherwise you don’t have a prayer, might has well get fitted for an orange jumpsuit.

Am I the only one who sees the Hand of Providence in the FOUR (soon, FIVE) failed lawfare attempts and the TWO failed assassination attempts on President Trump?

President Trump is clearly a man raised up “for a time such as this” — and that “raising up” of men (and occasionally women) in time of need of the people who are called by His name is the hallmark of Almighty GOD throughout the ages!

“ The legal system has utterly failed to disqualify former President Trump from office. […] Much of the fault may be laid at the feet of special counsel Jack Smith, ”

Author comes right out and says the reason they’re doing this is to “disqualify” Trump from being president.

Confirms it’s not about the law or Justice but it’s a railroad for political purposes.

Then he brought the slam-dunk Mar-a-Lago documents case in Florida. He could have brought it in Washington.

I seem to recall the legal eagles at the time of the classified docs indictment saying the exact opposite - that the investigation in Washington was illegal because it wasn't the place where the "crime" is alleged to have occurred.

Author’s hissy fit is yet another case for the dismal state
of journalistic garbage we see on a daily basis.

What will these imbeciles do in 4 weeks?

I think we already know.

Exactly. The entire swamp knows that if President Trump is re-elected they are through. They will stop at NOTHING to make sure this does not happen. May God protect him as he already has…

Any word on when charges will be filed for Biden’s mishandling of classified documents? No?

“Whether he becomes the next president is now anybody’s guess.”

It’s completely dependent on the level of election fraud that Democrats are willing and able to commit. I don’t see much stopping them.

This article seems to spell out everything wrong with these cases and the legal system generally.

If a person is accused of a crime, then that crime should be equally understood by any jury anywhere.

And if guilty or innocent, that person should be found to be that by any jury anywhere.

Convict-able crimes is not the goal here. The goal is to illegitimately tarnish Trump on the eve of the election.

The satisfaction from this article is that the Left was over the rainbow excited about their pit bull prosecutor. Now, a friendly colleague is questioning his strategy.
