Dockworkers' union to suspend strike until Jan. 15 to allow time to negotiate new contract

DETROIT (AP) — The union representing 45,000 striking U.S. dockworkers at East and Gulf coast ports reached a deal Thursday to suspend a three-day strike until Jan. 15 to provide time to negotiate a new contract.

The union, the International Longshoremen’s Association, is to resume working immediately. The temporary end to the strike came after the union and the U.S. Maritime

Alliance, which represents ports and shipping companies, reached a tentative agreement on wages, the union and ports said in a joint statement.

A person briefed on the agreement said the ports sweetened their wage offer from about 50% over six years to 62%. The person didn’t want to be identified because the agreement is tentative. Any wage increase would have to be approved by union members as part of the ratification of a final contract.

They’re postponing their strike so that Democrat-Communists can more easily steal the next election.

Hopefully the increased cost of going through a port
Pushes production on shore.

Excellent point. Common sense and applies to all policies.

Can I make a wish upon a star

Between now and then, the my recruit 1000s of railroad employees that have been laid off due to hedge funds and corporate greed, who can run every piece of equipment on the ports.

Offer the pay & benefit packages currently in place, one that pays well over $100k a year with great benefits, and usher the old guard out the door.

I’ve got it! The ballots for the steal haven’t been imported from China yet, and the democrats need the port open so they can bring in the millions of fake ballots.

They can’t stop automation forever. Not going that way will cost the shipping companies more than the salary increases. The shipping companies will be accelerating their re-tooling plans during this suspension. The salary increases will be a stop-gap until the companies can successfully divide and conquer labor. Those guys furthest from retirement better start seriously thinking about new skills training.

As happened last year with Writers and Actors strike I.E. AI, the union has gotten a Pyrrhic victory and just guaranteed AI Automation is coming sooner rather than later.

In the next 5 year or so the ports on both sides of the country will be free of a great many workers, no more Unions, and costs of labor will come down to fraction of what they are paying today.

It was the optics of the situation along with the Thug head of the Union, but even then Biden would not step in and help because it would help Harris who I think he despises and could care less if she can win or not.

Oh, I think when they finally woke up and realized the impact this might have on the election, they sent out some ‘messages’ - unless it was already planned.

The union is doing them no favors. This is the perfect time to strike. An upcoming election, disaster in the South, economy very fragile. This is when you want to strike. I am glad they are not striking, but when you pay union dues, and have some power in the situation, the union did them wrong.

62% while the rest of the country starves. I would go scab for half of what they were already making. These prima donnas are going to double the price of goods.

Will anyone investigate who invests into these “foreign owned” shipping companies. Because if it’s learned that Blackrock, etc etc are investors, the story fades away
