Breaking: Union for 45,000 US dockworkers agrees to suspend strike, AP source says (until 15 JAN 25)

HOUSTON — The union for 45,000 United States dockworkers agreed to suspend their strike until Jan. 15 to provide time to negotiate a new contract, according to an Associated Press source.

U.S. ports from Maine to Texas shut down Tuesday when the union representing about 45,000 dockworkers went on strike for the first time since 1977. The strike began at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and halted operations at ports from Brownsville to Boston.

The International Longshoremen’s Association wants significantly higher wages and a total ban on the automation of cranes, gates and container-moving trucks used in the loading or unloading of freight at 36 U.S. ports.

Those ports handle roughly half of the nations’ cargo from ships.

The contract between the ILA and the United States Maritime Alliance, which represents the ports, expired Tuesday. Some progress was reported in talks late Monday, but the union went on strike anyway.

Obama and Soros called and told them to stop, they’re hurting Biden-Harris.

A crap sandwich with a little less crap on it is, nonetheless, a crap sandwich.

Even if all those things have improved, the real question is, “Are you better off now than four years ago?”

The answer for most will be a resounding, “No.”

Yeah, those longshoreman should start getting “coding” classes at the union hall. They are going to need them.

This is a campaign contribution for the democrat party.

Taking her off the hot seat. Maybe the union will say Kamala’s word salad jawboned them into being reasonable.

In the South....if a flake of snow is predicted, bread and milk fly off the shelves.

Been that way for years.

While I share your frustration with uninformed buyers, if there is a run on a paper goods and you haven’t stocked up and are now in need, who actually is the dip shit? See the problem?

“AUTOMATE the darn ports. Done.”

It’s coming, the union is in denial, and probably stole the money and have to face the music of a bunch pissed off dockworkers over their missing retirement funds, when that day comes.

Maybe, but I think the prospect of all or most East Coast governors following the lead of DeSantis calling out the National Guard carried more weight with the mobsters...........uh teamsters.......than the DNC.

“In the South....if a flake of snow is predicted, bread and milk fly off the shelves.”

There’s a good size Walmart not too far from where I live, one time we had a hurricane bearing down on the area so I figured well I might as well get up to Walmart and pick a few things up at the last minute just in case.

So I get up there and about the only things they didn’t have was toilet paper, white bread, and beer... everything else was stocked!

What good does automating do when port operations are run by foreign entities?

Foreign control of operations of major ports is a far more clear and present danger to us.
