I think that, once upon a time, women who couldn’t necessarily manage the “conventional beauty” thing, would focus on home-making skills. Make a great apple pie, decorate your home well, sew some clothing, plant a garden. Men like a peaceful, orderly environment. With practice, these skills can be acquired and can attract men.
Today, there seems to be a lot of women who are “pretty” and bring nothing else to the table.
And there also seems to be a lot of women who are not conventionally pretty and who try very hard to be ugly and obnoxious and abrasive.
By the way, marriage rates are down.
