FEMA is officially running out of money, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has confirmed that the agency doesn’t have enough funds to make it through the rest of the hurricane season. The situation is dire, and according to Mayorkas, “We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have, but we are expecting another hurricane to hit. FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season.”
With Helene having already caused catastrophic damage across multiple states—destroying homes, flooding entire towns, and taking lives—the agency is struggling to keep up with recovery efforts. And the need for assistance is only growing as more than 150,000 households have registered for help, and that number is expected to keep rising. Mayorkas didn’t mince words when he said, “The breadth of its catastrophic reach is unprecedented,” calling the storm’s impact “historic.”
But here’s the kicker: While FEMA scrambles to find funding for hurricane survivors, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has just allocated over $640 million to assist with the arrival of noncitizen migrants. Yes, you read that right. Of that amount, $300 million will be distributed through the State and Local Assistance Program (SSP-A), while $340.9 million is set aside for competitive funding. This move has sparked controversy, as many are wondering why such massive amounts are being funneled toward migrant services when American citizens facing the aftermath of natural disasters are being told that FEMA is broke.
The numbers don’t lie—FEMA is being stretched thin, and unless Congress steps in soon, the agency won’t have enough money to help hurricane victims rebuild their lives. While Congress did recently approve a $20 billion boost to FEMA’s disaster relief fund, it’s clear that this won’t be enough to cover the costs of recovery, especially with more storms on the horizon. Mayorkas was blunt: “We do not have the funds to make it through the season, and another hurricane is imminent.”
Despite the urgency of the situation, there’s no clear sign that Congress will reconvene ahead of schedule to address this shortfall. House Speaker Mike Johnson has shown little interest in changing the legislative calendar, even as some lawmakers push for a supplemental spending bill to keep FEMA afloat. With both houses of Congress focused on their upcoming elections, the people hit hardest by Hurricane Helene might just be left waiting for help that won’t arrive in time.
So, while FEMA does what it can with the resources it has, the clock is ticking. Another hurricane is coming, and if something doesn’t change soon, many Americans could find themselves stranded without the assistance they so desperately need.

did congress authorize FEMA funds to be spent on illegals?
Turn this into a Trump campaign ad.
“Kamala Harris and Joe Biden spent your tax money to bring in illegal aliens that are committing crimes, taking your jobs, and eating your cats, while leaving American citizens to die in Georgia, North Carolina, and other states.”
“I’m Donald Trump and I approve this message.”
He’s another one who needs to disappear.

Out of money? We’re 30 trillion plus in debt. Surely we can print a little more for this.
voting block first. I think F wad needs to appear before congress again.
Cuz the fund was robbed to fund illegals.
Stalin is grinning.
Remember when America was the Land of the Free?
but banana cake mix, banana muffin mix, banana pudding will be around.
It used to be against the law for any government official to use public funds in an inappropriate manner; misappropriation of taxpayer’s money. A law is only as good as its level of enforcement. Hello!
Also isn't it illegal to move money around after Congress passed the budget.... oh I forgot we now have continuing funding resolutions, wonder if that scam allows movement of funding?
They haven’t spent most of the money “allocated” to their pet foreign invaders, they can take it back. FEMA and the communist DP needs to be forced to choose who they will help and then American needs to judge their decision.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, OF COURSE, HAVE BEEN IMPORTED BY THE DEMOCRAT PARTY TO PACK THE VOTER ROLLS WITH PRO-DEMOCRAT VOTERS!
I have just returned from the North Carolina mountains. The devastation is mind-blowing!
Do you mean to tell me that funds are being withheld from US citizens to fund the importation of ILLEGAL immigrants?!
Anyone who votes for a Democrat is a FOOL!
I was just wondering....just how much do the demonrats pay for a single presidential vote....legal or otherwise.??
It must be thousands.!
did congress authorize FEMA funds to be spent on illegals?

No, But they did authorize $220 billion to a corrupted nation that has no strategic value to us what so ever. Ukraine has become our 51st state, another Biden Debacle.
Way too many nails are being driven into our coffin, and the best Trump can ever do is manage our decline.
We were hit by a flood in the valley where I live, and we had to carry out our own water rescues. No local, state, or federal agencies responded to our calls for help. We barely got everyone out before the river rose quickly. We spent the night in a church parking lot above the valley while the river ran through our homes.
Many homes were lost. My cousins, who are in their mid-70s, refuse to accept that their home is completely destroyed and are sleeping on the porch at night. At their age, they can’t afford to start over. Another cousin is moving his family to a house owned by his in-laws. Others are removing insulation and air conditioning ducts from under their homes to prevent mold and mildew from forming in the coming weeks. They’re hoping their floors didn’t get wet. My brother did the same for his house, and he’s lost between $75,000 to $100,000 in business equipment since he stores his work materials at home and on my land.
I was lucky—I built my house in 2006 to withstand a 100-year flood and qualify for flood insurance. I only lost things in the garage, basement, and my 2001 Jeep XJ (I loved that Jeep). Most people in the valley didn’t have flood insurance.
I’ve just finished cleaning out the garage and basement, and everything’s been hauled to the dump. Now I’m paying for dumpsters for my cousins. I’ll be looking at some campers for my cousins in their 70s, hoping to find something they can live in, maybe an Airstream. One of my cousins’ foundations is damaged, so I’ll try to find someone to fix it. His home was built for the 100-year flood too.
My brother, who works in commercial AC, is replacing all my cousins’ heat pumps.
My Starlink internet is being provided by another cousin. Thanks Cous!
One cousin joked that maybe we should eat cat to get some help. I guess Biden does not like mountain people.
Turn this into a news media talking point:
“Republicans in Congress refuse to provide funds for hurricane relief.”
Phooey!
