Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz tried again Wednesday to explain his repeated false statement that he was in China during the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989 — telling reporters in Pennsylvania that he “got his dates wrong” and suggesting he makes verbal mistakes “like everybody else.”
Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, was questioned during Tuesday night’s debate over a report that indicated that he was not in Hong Kong like he repeatedly previously claimed — but was actually back home in Nebraska.
“Look, I have my dates wrong. I was in Hong Kong and China in 1989,” Walz said Wednesday. “You’ve seen me. These teachers see me. I speak like everybody else speaks,” he added. “I need to be clearer. I will tell you that.”

Sort of like Bush Sr. saying he can't recall where he was when JFK was killed, or Kerry having been in Cambodia was seared into his memory.
I think that he lies for his own benefit somehow - to make himself feel more important than he really is. Nobody else would care if he was in China at the time. Hardly anybody else would care if he was a Master Sergeant or a Chief Master Sergeant or whatever it was. Nobody else would care if he was THE Coach, or an assistant coach, etc.
In addition to verifying that he is a knucklehead. he was also “ friends with school shooters”.
If we were to lie on a job application regarding dates of past employment, could we get away with his lame-ass excuse? That lie is a form of a job application.
For a man who courageously carried weapons of war in battle and served with his battalion in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and retired with the rank of command sergeant major in the National Guard, you’d think he’d be more careful with his statements. /SARC
ABC’s gentle story included that Walz “technically” did not commit the federal crime of falsifying military service (Stolen Valor is a crime) but should have corrected journalists’ errors.
“These inaccuracies, which at times went uncorrected, include Walz not denying the statement that he served in Afghanistan, and Walz repeatedly saying that he retired with a rank he achieved but did not retire with, as well as an instance in 2018 of Walz claiming that he carried weapons of war “in war,” about which the Harris-Walz campaign said that he misspoke.”

Really great point. You’d be worried about ripple effects - flights cancelled, it would be on the local news all the time, etc.
Maybe like being in California during a major quake. If you were there when it happened for sure you would remember it. Hmm - if you were in California after the quake and they were still cleaning things up and things were disrupted you would remember it too. But you wouldn’t say “I was there when it happened.”
