They went to school on the UAW actions over the past decade. Their agreements were lax in the area of automation. Yeah they got what they wanted but then innovation and took over such that there were fewer jobs.

Meanwhile in the dock workers, especially on the west coast, it is a nepotistic fiefdom. Surely they want no automation as those jobs most leading to automation will remove the unskilled.

Whether it gets settled soon or not, I wonder when our commerce secretary will be focused on it. What a senior leadership group we have in DC now. A commerce secretary who did not see this coming, a FEMA chief who is spouting all kinds of DEI crap while not being prepared for Helene; unko all our emergencies have to do with packing the US with illegals and paying for their upkeep. And a secretary of Transportation probably whose idea of great transportation would be bicycles without saddles.

For some reason, I think he will do it...but it's about timing. He has to be the savior...I'll give him a few days...he's getting flack from different groups.

But this friggin' Union will effect other Unions...layoffs?? just before Christmas??

If I were negotiating with these greedy SOBs, my counteroffer would be a pink slip, and just because I’m not heartless, a free tent and directions to the nearest freeway overpass.

Automate!, automate!, automate!

That’s a good point. However, it will be up to what his advisors tell him to do. As you said, I suspect they may wait a few days in hopes it resolves itself before they act.

It's not going to resolve itself anytime soon. You can bet the Union boss has an umbilical chord to the Whitehouse.

But be real...Biden is calling nothing...It's Schumer and Obama.

there are other unions that will be effected. Taft Hartley will happen...

T-H might happen…but not for a while. Just a week of this will have repercussions. Ships will line up, idle, waiting to get to port. West Cost ports will start to back up.

If this goes on for much time, it will take weeks to get back to “normal.”

The supply chain doesn’t really care if you are a Republican or Democrat. If the flow of goods slows, that flow will go to where it can make the most money. Inflation will start back up.

Personally Iam more than prepared for whatever happens. I hope these losers cripple the economy and President trump pulls a Reagan and fires them all like reagan did with the air traffic controllers. Id love nothing more than to see these cretins thrown out on their a$$es. I have a feeling most here have never met a longshoreman IRL. Ive met my share and they are real pieces of work. The nerve that they want a promise that we willl never automate. You guys are living in a dream world.
