I realized something very important about the human condition when I was in high school.
I realized that people tend to hate those who fight evil far more than they hate those engaged in doing evil.
What made me come to this conclusion was the way in which many people reacted to communism and to anti-communism.
To my amazement, a great many people -- specifically, all leftists and many, though not all, liberals -- hated anti-communists far more than they hated communism.
Because of my early preoccupation with good and evil, already in high school, I hated communism. How could one not, I wondered. Along with Nazism, it was the great evil of the 20th century. Needless to say, as a Jew and as a human, I hated Nazism. But as I was born after Nazism was vanquished, the great evil of my time was communism.
Communists murdered about 100 million people -- all noncombatants and all innocent. Stalin murdered about 30 million people, including 5 million Ukrainians by starvation (in just two years: 1932-33). Mao killed about 60 million people. Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge (Red Cambodians) killed about 3 million people, one in every four Cambodians, between 1975 and 1979. The North Korean communist regime killed between 2 million and 3 million people, not including another million killed in the Korean War started by the North Korean communists.

Evil individuals hate those who fight them.
BTTT
It’s only the normal “human condition” to see this phenomenon when the people who are making the judgements are not the ones attacked or directly threatened by the evil.
It’s a social state where people who are observing a regular condition of peace or at least order, and they are benefiting from it, or at least feel personally safe in it, get very agitated by visible aggression. You can see this a lot with individuals, when the person who instigates and provokes someone into a reaction is not corrected, even if their provocation is violent. It is the one who reacts or retaliates who is almost always punished.
Why?
Usually it is because the provocations went unnoticed or were ignored.
John 15:18-25
King James Version
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.
22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.
23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
Amen
Even with its history of 100 million dead and -- as Rush properly noted for decades -- that communism has failed every time it has been tried, people are actively encouraging and willing to accept this blatant attempt by those who hate America and lust for power to transition our Republic to a totalitarian state.
When you look at this crowd, you realize they are mostly useful idiots who have never experienced true evil.
In other words, many people go into cowardly denial and hate those that fight evil because it reminds them of their own cowardice.
Movies are completely unrealistic -- I mean the good movies of old not the trash one watches today.
Movies today are also unrealistic, but in a cultural Communist way instead of how human nature really works.

Antifa forever.
The original Antifa, in Germany, were communists who fought (literally) the persons termed “Fascists”. Fact is, Fascism, the Nazi doctrines, and Communism were but different kinds of socialism, all based on command-and-control schemes. To call Nazis and Fascists “right-wing” is a misnomer, as they were just only barely to the right of International Communism, and used many of the same control factors, like indoctrination of the young, euthanasia of the unfit or recalcitrant, a constant drone of propaganda to civilians, and a militaristic hierarchy form of governance, with the Maximum Leader holding some kind of military rank, like Commandant or Marshall. All for the good of the “people”, you understand.
Personally, I made no reference to movies or fiction. They are moot here for obvious reasons. The character’s motives and behavior are dependent on the fantastic (and rarely realistic or complex) design and usually beholden to the plot, not on a real world psyche.
In terms of individual conflicts within groups, I was thinking more of sporting events when it’s usually the one who retaliates who gets penalized.
But these metaphors are terrible to apply to geopolitics, because it seems almost everyone picks ‘sides’. So there’s so much there that doesn’t work, except for the one point I want to make about the phenomenon of missing or ignoring the provocation.
Once the hostilities finally show up on everyone’s radar, they drop any effort to discern the contexts and complexities or harm that may have preceded it, and they commence immediately with trying to suppress further action and punishing the parties involved, usually aligned with whose ‘side’ they are already aligned with.
Paging Senator McCarthy...
Senator Joseph McCarthy...
I know you did not reference that. I did. Perhaps I said it from the ugly lessons I had learned.
I had my greatest revelation of evil and bigotry in the days after the terrorist attacks on Oct 7, a woman that I worked with said that Israel had brought this on themselves, and she didn’t think Israel should be ALLOWED to retaliate against Hamas. This woman has proudly professed her Catholic faith, and her support of ALL things for democrats. I realized then that being a Jew hating, democrat, Catholic was a cancer in the Catholic faith. My other Catholic workers had a look of disbelief on their faces. I also realized that many people that profess their Christian faith are just as evil, bigoted, and hateful towards Jews, and all of them are democrats, or closet democrats. It has changed my whole prospective on how people profess their Christianity and how they think and conduct themselves. I am Apostolic Pentecost and have seen and heard from various people and various Christian faiths who profess their Christianity but have a deep hatred of the Jewish people, all of them have been democrats. I’m dumbfounded over their total support of democrats and even showing them proof of the democrats being anti-Christian and anti-Jew, it doesn’t change their support of democrats.
Even the atheistic Objectivists said Catholicism is a sophisticated religion.
Fallen man would rather beleive the lie than the truth because the lie doesn’t condemn their sin
Very astute observation. It is a sign of our moral decay and departure from God.
The consequences are severe, as we are witnessing.
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
1 Corinthians 6:9
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?…”
Yes, the consequences are very severe.
