The Monterey County Sheriff's Office says its Explosive Ordnance Unit was called to a Salinas home on Saturday.
A deputy spokesperson said that an anti-tank rocket was found in a Salinas home near 500 Capitol Street.
Salinas police received a call of a possible mortar being found in the home at around 4:43 p.m. Mulitple homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution.
"Bomb technicians were able to identify the device as a High Explosive Anti-Tank (H.E.A.T.) rocket. After examining the device with highly sophisticated equipment, bomb technicians determined the device contained hazardous characteristics and proceeded to conduct a “render-safe” procedure to dispose of the device," said a deputy spokesperson.
At around 9:20 p.m. the device was rendered safe and residents were allowed back into their homes.
The reporting party said the previous owner had just passed away and was a retired military serviceman who collected military artifacts. The rest of the residence was searched and no either hazardous ordinances were found.
Yeah, so how did THAT get there?
‘Rat voter?

Wait, never mind.
Why, no, I’m saving that one for the Fourth Of July. Officer.
“...and no either hazardous ordinances were found”

There are a lot of “hazardous ordinances” in CA. I wonder if they checked for hazardous ordnance???
Whew! For a minute I thought it might be a dangerous empty launcher tube.
“Anti-Tank Rocket Found in Salinas Home”
Hard to see Trump going there, being that it’s in California, but there still has to be reason why they sent the weapon to Salinas.
Only the characteristics were hazardous. The rocket was probably not.
Inert collector item rendered even more inert by bomb squad. Headline written by the usual “I have no knowledge of armaments” liberal arts major...
Don’t worry. They are only dangerous in California!
Fort Ord was in the Monterey area. The shell could have been found where the base used to be.

I wonder if Walz has a bunch of tampon applicators in his junk drawer
I think he has his junk bunched up in a tampon in his drawers.
Missing the serial #?
I remember people finding cannonballs near Virginia Civil War battlefields. They’d use them as doorstops or decoration, not aware that some were filled with black powder.
California street gangs sometimes manage to get one of their own into the military and weapons get stolen.
It’s a bazooka round.
Seriously.
Rocket, High Explosive, 3.5-INCH AT, M28A2
For the M20 “super-bazooka”
And there’s no sign of the shaped charge on the x-ray, which means it’s inert.
RE: it’s a bazooka round.
RE: anti-tank rocket
So what’s the problem? How many tanks are usually in danger on a suburban street? If they are then don’t drive them.
Clinton closed it down in the 90’s. Now a lot of it is hiking trails. That is where Clint Eastwood and Jimi Hendrix served.
